THREAD ABOUT CAT PEE:
Lotta folks been asking me about Hampton's Magic Listerine Potion which gets rid the smell of cat piss.
'Twas popularized in a thread w @elizmccracken a while back.
Here's the deets. Feel free to share widely.
IT WORKS. Here goes:
2/
First off, expensive anti cat pee cleaners don't work. Especially the "natural" ones.
Cat pee molecules are persistent. You gotta break those suckers up.
Get yourself a big bottle of old school yellow Listerine...
3/
I'm talking Listerine 1.0, the 1875 looking bottle of amber goodness.
Get a big spray bottle and/or, even better, an old ketchup squirt bottle.

Fill halfway with clean water. Fill the rest up with Listerine.
4/
That's it. That's the recipe.
But:
-- SOAK the stain. Cat pee seeps in and gets everywhere, so you should oversoak beyond the boundaries of the smell.
Listerine rarely stains, do you don't have to be afraid here.
Also cats don't mind the smell...
5/
Unlike other cleaners, which can annoy/ irritate cats. (Annoyed cats pee more. Another reason those expensive cleaners don't work.)

-- You will likely need to do more than one application. Let the first soaking dry, then wait a few days, then repeat.

-- Meanwhile...

Be paying attention to how your cat reacts to its pee being eradicated. They usually will not Re-pee over Listerine. But now is the time to figure out why they did it in the first place. Illness? Anxiety? Reaction to household factors? Listerine won't upset them...
7/
... so be looking now, while you're calm and not freaking out about the smell in the house, for what the root cause is.

Reapply, remove offending stressors and pee inspirations, and remember Listerine can also work on hard surfaces like drywall and hardwood floors...
8/
Because of you really soak these porous hard surfaces, you can potentially get the old, baked in smells or of the house too.

Your house WILL smell like a hospital during this process. But that's better than cat pee! And it fades.

If you're lucky, yr cat will learn from...
9/
this process that peeing doesn't have the desired effect, and they'll quit. (As long as they can smell themselves, they'll find it comforting to keep peeing.)

Tl;dr Listerine is MUCH cheaper and less stressful than fancy cleaners, truly kills pee molecules, the end.
10/
p.s. Sorry about typos.
Not sure if this works for dog pee or on concrete, but give it a try!
It's SO CHEAP and doesn't stain or offend sensitive noses, so worst case scenario your house smells like the dentist for a few days. Low risk!!
11/
p.p.s. I learned this trick from an actual scientist. Figured the rest out from having lots of cats. Something about Listerine destroys the ammonia molecules in pee, I dunno how it works. But fyi it's SCIENCE and I forgot to say that.
OK this is really the end.
