1) When Colgate was first launched in 1806, they were not selling toothpaste yet. Their main products were actually soaps, starch, and candles.
2) In fact, their first-ever globally successful product was the Cashmere Bouquet — a perfumed soap.
3) When they finally started making anything related to oral care, it was in the form of tooth powder.
4) Colgate did finally disrupt the industry when they introduced the first-ever toothpaste in collapsible tubes. It was called as the Colgate Ribbon Dental Cream.
5) Colgate’s Ribbon Dental Cream achieved tremendous success eventually launching Colgate into dominating the US-market.
6) Colgate’s dominance would last only until the 1950s, when P&G launched Crest — the FIRST toothpaste that contained Flouride.
7) Despite Colgate’s 150-year head start, Crest dethroned Colgate as the market leader in the US. From a 10% market share, Crest would leapfrog Colgate to 30%, putting Colgate at 20%. It would stay that way for 30 years.
8) Colgate would eventually launch their own version, but it would be too late to make a dent on Crest’s lead.

(Young Brooke Shields in this Colgate ad.)
They came to India in 1940's
Where it was used by many people .
People believed that using this will never cause any toothace and so it became a success.
9) But in 1997, Colgate struck back when launched Colgate Total — the first toothpaste to contain Triclosan. Colgate launched Total with a $100-million marketing campaign budget.
11)Colgate offers a complete product line including children's products that help grow their targeted market Colgate's audience identified men and women aged 18-34 who are now married with children, aged six or younger.
12) Today, Colgate remains as the world leader in both toothpaste and toothbrush categories.
