American friends, we’re having an election in BC on Oct 24, it was called ahead of schedule in mid-September. A candidate for the rightmost party in the race compared contraception to eugenics, and as a result his party committed to fully cover contraception and he resigned. 1/?
This is not to rub it in. This is a province that, for all but 3 years between 1952 and 1991, was run by a right-wing social conservative party, led by the populist WAC Bennett for over 20 years and then by his son for 13 more. 2/3
This is to say, things can change, and anyone I know to the south is already helping push that direction. Don’t give up, and there’s a hell of a few weeks to come, but it can get better, and we want you all to get there. /end
