People my age or younger who complain "there's no good new music" or "good music stopped in [year]" are a) lazy, b) unimaginative, or c) never had good taste anyway.
There's so much good new music out, the bigger problem for me is keeping up. Well that and not buying it all.
I guess I really shouldn’t tweet something like that without any follow-up, huh? So here’s some good new music (1/?):
If you’re into spooky beats and future garage type stuff, there’s this phenomenal new EP by Drew Scott - haven’t stopped listening since it came out. GREAT collabs with @infinitykniives and @pale_spring.
SPEAKING OF @palespring, Drew’s partner in crime and other things, there’s this great album released in June, a heady mix of electronic and downbeat and indie and electronic and r&b and trip hop. And the vocals. 🔥
If you’re more into noisy indie rock type stuff, here’s the debut EP from #Gaygirl - I hear Throwing Muses meets Babes in Toyland... or... something. Anyway, it’s great.
On the hip hop front, unapologetic art rapper @Mike_Eagle just released a new album that I found out about TODAY, and so far I’m already in love with it.
Further hip hop, @WESTSIDEGUNN released a new album this month - I’ve only heard this track so far (c/o @treblezine), but I love the beat, and Black Thought adds a nice vocal contrast with his verse.
Closing out the hip hop with a new @AesopRockWins !!! I’ve only skimmed it so far, but I know I’m gonna but it and I know I’m gonna love it. You can also buy a flint & steel fire starter kit and a canteen as merch, so
Switching gears - heavy jazz / dark soul / scary funk act @BudosBand has a terrific new album. They sound like Black Sabbath meets Booker T or something. I dunno. I dig it.
@perfumegenius never misses, and while it’s still the album I’m least familiar with, Set My Heart On Fire Immediately is as beautiful and challenging and ... Perfume Genius as ever.
UMMMMM I know there’s a lot more. So far I’ve limited this list to JUST albums that came out in 2020 and that I’ve purchased. If I extended this even a year out, there’d be so much more. Other genres, artists, albums. There’s a lot to explore!
This was from last year, but even 21st century Turkish dark wave / goth is good.

Been having some very real conversations with my daughter about important things, things like cultural appropriation. Like when she said she was goth and I asked her to name her favorite goth band and she didn’t know any.
We had to have “a conversation”
I’m kidding.
But I DID call her a poseur and told her if she ever decided to call herself “punk” she goddamn better well do her homework next time.
