This is what @fawcettsociety said in 2018 about whether women's sports could exclude males
This is what @fawcettsociety said in 2020 when @EnglandRugby decided to ignore the scientific evidence of "significant risk of injury" and not protect female rugby players
This is what @fawcettsociety said in 2018 about the need to consider the trauma and fears of vulnerable women when deciding whether male-bodied can be allowed to use single sex services as if they were female
This is what @fawcettsociety said in 2020 when @CareQualityComm said it ignores sex, @TheBMA said women's request for a female Dr could not be honoured & @rcgp gave award to a male Dr for celebrating putting their hands inside a woman's vagina when she asked for a female
This is what @fawcettsociety said in 2018 about protecting the ability to discuss the issues of sex and gender identity in politics and policy making
This is what @fawcettsociety said in 2020 when a female MP was being abused and 'reeducated' by her own party and bullied by an "institutionally sexist" trade union for stepping out of line.
This is what the rest of the women's sector (bar a tiny handful of brave individuals) said
Do you get it yet?

If you do not support women's rights in principle you will not be able to support women in practice.

There is no compromise position that you will not concede further, or fall silent on.

You have been backed into a corner by bullies you thought were allies
This happens to women a lot.

Feminism teaches us to come out fighting, and with the solidarity of other women.

When your allies turn out to be bullies: how @fawcettsociety got lost

Back in 2017 when many of us hadn't got our heads round the issue Fawcett put out its first statement on gender identity.

It started well. Image
But they had made the mistake of conflating sex and gender when they surveyed the public

(Why?? Perhaps they first consulted their ally organisations and let them set the terms?) ImageImage
Nevertheless, they reiterated their mission: to focus on the lived experience of women.

This hadn't changed they said. Image

He has a beard, but don't let that put you off.

They are brilliant and I have every confidence in them.

The state of transgender law training in practice

This article by @legalfeminist is shocking

legalfeminist.org.uk/2020/10/16/tra…

It looks at training at @TheInnerTemple by @JuliaArmfield, @AllanBriddock, @AlexSharpe64 , @Genderintell, @JoeHart and @moira_robin
The training seems based on motivated reasoning to justify this:

Some males want to use female only facilities.

Their wishes are all that matters

Women who want privacy & security are bigots

... The law says so!
Except as @legalfeminist carefully and patiently point out it doesn't

This is the big myth at the heart of the lawyers-against-womens-boundaries argument

The idea that the exceptions are rarely used

"Institutionally sexist" GMB now going after Rosie Duffield
"Bullying, harassment, misogyny and cronyism are endemic" said Karon Monaghan

Their arguments about the Gender Recognition Act are incoherent and do not consider women's rights and interests

The principle of anti discrimination laws is that ppl shld not be treated differently because of a protected characteristic

Exceptions are put into the law in recognition that sometimes fair treatment means different. Eg to meet needs related to disability, pregnancy, sex etc
This relies on an objective reason (usually related to something physical) or may be to overcome disadvantage of a group
Exceptions are also put in in recognition of freedom of association and belief. People should not be discriminated because of religion, sex, ethnic origin etc.. but people should be able to chose form associations based on characteristics & practice their beliefs

What I do not understand: while thiswas happening to @whjm, she was patron of @fawcettsociety, and Fawcett was saying nothing. Fawcett could not say JK Rowling's name. Fawcett & @EVAWuk would not talk about it.

Are we supposed to have have a stiff upper lip about this?

Why?
This employment judge got it -- open season has been declared on women who talk about women's rights .

And women's sector organisations kept up a wall of silence.

Why?
