I stopped by a Trump promotion event in South Whitehall just outside Allentown.

@PoliticsValley tells me in the past couple years, “It’s gotten worse to be a Republican.”

Jared, 31, who declined to give his last name, is a pilot and member of ALPA, the pilots union.

He likes the union but wishes it stayed out of politics.

Jared thinks Trump’s done a “great job” with COVID-19. He admits Biden might prevent its spread more effectively but he doesn’t like the trade off of what he expects is Biden’s plan to shut things down more fully.

Jared voted for Obama in 2012 and was liberal in college but now is more conservative.

What conservative ideas? Lower taxes, less emphasis on college, and tougher border enforcement.

Jared’s biggest gripe with Obama was the offshoring of domestic jobs on his watch and his comments suggesting those jobs won’t return.

Some more people I spoke to at the Trump event today...

Michael Morrissey, a plumber, voted Obama in 2012 but was disappointed.

“I was tired of all the bullshit in the Democrat party.”

What’s the bullshit?

“I’m tired of the left caring more about immigrants and people in foreign countries than our own veterans.”

Michael thinks the polls in Pa. are inaccurately showing Biden ahead because Trump supporters are afraid to share their views.

Michael doesn’t appreciate that the plumbing union he belongs to supports Democrats, but says his fellow rank-and-file members support Trump.
