JOB: The @TrinityCollege @ActionLabHartford is hiring a Liberal Arts Action Lab Director & Lecturer in Urban Studies. trincoll.peopleadmin.com/postings/2180 Deadline 11/6. This is an amazing opportunity for a PhD/ABD social scientist - more info in thread!
The Action Lab (action-lab.org) applies liberal arts skills to addressing community-defined projects, while offering students a unique, two-course experiential learning opportunity.
Here are a few things which I love about the Lab: (1) Our Hartford community partners propose projects, which are prioritized by a Hartford Resident Advisory Board. The Lab addresses questions that Hartford organizations and residents care about, working in partnership.
(2) The Lab then engages diverse teams of faculty and students from Trinity and Capital Community College - @capitalcc_ct - to spend a semester working together on a project.
(3) But first it makes sure these students have concrete skills to offer our partners. While working on a project team, students take a research methods course, including the ethics of community-based engagement.
(4) The Director will join an institution with enthusiasm and resources for community engaged teaching and research, and a commitment to our home city of Hartford, including through the Center for Hartford Engagement and Research @TrinCollCHER. cher.trincoll.edu
(5) This position has an academic home as a Lecturer in our Urban Studies Program, joining a team of faculty passionate about and accomplished in urban scholarship in the US and abroad. trincoll.edu/urban-studies/
(6) And finally, you get to join us in #Hartford, working at the @TrinityCollege beautiful downtown campus. Hartford has a vibrant food, cultural, and theater scene and I love living here. hartford.com/awesome-things/
Who are we looking for? The Director serves as the Lab’s lead instructor, recruits community projects and student/faculty teams, and shapes the Lab’s broader approach and vision.
We're seeking a candidate with knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods from across liberal arts disciplines; expertise in urban research; a commitment to civic engagement; a proven record of teaching; and an ability to facilitate team-building in diverse groups
We encourage applicants who share our commitment to diversity and inclusion, and especially welcome applications from women and underrepresented racial/ethnic groups. @POCalsoknow@womenalsoknow
