Good Morning Bendigo!
Opened on 21 October 1862 as Sandhurst, name was changed in 1891 when city renamed Bendigo.
Railway workshops opened by VR at Bendigo in 1917.
Bendigo was a major railway centre.

Main work was repairs and maintenance of existing wagons and locomotives. During 1919-22 thirteen new steam locomotives were also built. From the 1950s numerous steam locomotives were scrapped at the workshops.

Located in the north of the city and occupied 10.3 hectare of land beside the junction of the Piangil and Deniliquin lines.

Loco foreground is A class (new) 4-4-0. The other 2-8-0 loco is a V class. Compound cylinders. These converted to simple 1912-13.

1950s I was fortunate to have a cab ride R class on Swan Hill pass from Bendigo. B class diesel Spencer St to Bendigo then replaced by R.

Ballarat station (as Ballarat West) opened April 1862 when railway from Geelong was completed. The train hall and north station buildings date from 1862 and the south building with its clock tower was added in 1889.

Nos. 1 3 5 7 9 later known as P class.
Rebuilt early 1900s. Last scrapped 1921 after a service life of 1,257,136 miles.
VR 0-6-0 goods built George England & Company London 1857, nos. 2, 3, 4, & 5, in service 1859.
Renumbered 11, 13, 15 and 17 in 1860.
Later known as V class.

First station was built as the terminus of the Geelong and Melbourne Railway Company line 1854. Later relocated to the west, 1877 > 1881 current station building was constructed.
