The Washington Post said "the disproportionate number of teachers appearing in covid-19 obituaries is striking."

The author has not provided any evidence of disproportionate representation.

This unsubstantiated statement should be corrected @washingtonpost.
From today's WSJ:

"Sweden never shut its schools, and teachers there have had the same fatality rate during this pandemic as IT technicians, who can often work from home."
wsj.com/articles/end-t…
From the same Sweden study:

"One other finding worth discussing on its own is the low COVID-19 mortality risk of children’s and adolescents’ teachers"

WSJ cites Brown University's Emily Oster:

"Her data—covering almost 200,000 kids across 47 states from the last two weeks of September—showed a Covid-19 case rate of 0.13% among students and 0.24% among staff [...] By comparison, the current overall U.S. case rate is 2.6%"
Brown University's Emily Oster discussed the data in The Atlantic:

Betsy DeVos: "We support the bipartisan School Choice Now Act which would directly fund families and empower them to choose the best educational setting for their children."
"At the end of the day we want parents to have the freedom, the choices, and the funds to make the best decisions for their children."
"The 'Washington knows best' crowd really loses their minds over that.

They seem to think that the people's money doesn't belong to the people

That it instead belongs to 'the public,' or rather, what they really mean: government."

Why would giving families a choice "funnel money away" from public schools?🤔
School choice doesn't funnel money away from public schools

Public schools funnel money away from families.
Allowing families to choose their grocery store doesn't "funnel money away" from Safeway

Allowing families to choose their school doesn't funnel money away from public schools.

BREAKING: A group of families just filed a lawsuit arguing this week's teacher "sick out" in Idaho was an illegal strike that kept schools closed.
Idaho's largest school district voted to partially open schools this week.

But they didn't open Monday or Tuesday because of teacher "sick outs."
Liberty Justice Center: "Idaho state law bans government employees from going on strike."

This lawsuit asks a state trial judge to declare the strike illegal.

The largest school district in Idaho didn't open in person today because of a teacher "sick out"

The district just informed families that schools won't open tomorrow either because over 500 teachers already called in sick.
This uneven power dynamic is the main problem with K-12 education

We should fund students instead of institutions.
If a grocery store doesn't reopen families can take their money elsewhere

If a school doesn't reopen families should similarly be able to take their children's education dollars elsewhere.
