The use of "Russia" as a shorthand to heap scorn on Democrats is odd because... Russian intelligence officers really did hack and release emails to damage the 2016 Democratic candidate.

That is a real thing that happened despite being inconvenient for the narratives of some.
Are there people who have taken that and run with it way too far? Absolutely.

But the core of it was correct. There was a genuinely unusual intervention into the 2016 US election by the Russian government, centered around the stealing and leaking of emails.
Crowdstrike was correct and since their initial assessment based on limited info far more information has been released in Mueller's indictment of GRU officers and in the Mueller Report itself: techniques, methods, tons of communications.

For more than 3 years, prosecutors investigated Trump's late Oct 2016 "loan" of $10 million to his campaign. Intel suggested the money was tied to Egypt's government.

But in the end, nobody was willing to subpoena Trump's bank records to try & find out

Mueller had the investigation while he was special counsel. An Egyptian state-owned bank involved fought hard against a Mueller subpoena for records. This was the famed "mystery grand jury" fight went on for months

Ronna McDaniel seems to be the earliest case in this group we know about, right?

With Trump Friday 9/25 (day before ACB event).

Then went home to Michigan and stayed there starting 9/26, notably skipping the debate (where there was a seat reserved for her). Tested positive Wed ImageImage
McDaniel is significant because the other known cases tied to Trump were with him during the ACB event or in the days after it. But her last contact with Trump was 9/25, before the ACB event.

(Also, skipping the debate Tuesday suggests she was aware she could be sick by then)
The Post now reports Ronna McDaniel called the White House Monday 9/28 (day before debate) to tell them she wasn't feeling well.

As @pbump pointed out, on the afternoon of 9/28 Trump unusually used a separate podium from other speakers at a WH event.

Judge Emmet Sullivan’s hearing about whether he should let DOJ dismiss the Flynn case is about to start. Expect some grilling.
The odd situation here is that both DOJ and Flynn’s lawyers want the case thrown out. But Judge Sullivan was suspicious of DOJ’s motives, and appointed John Gleeson, a retired judge, to argue against them.
Gleeson filed a scathing brief arguing that DOJ's reasons for seeking dismissal were "pretextual," "riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact," and that "the government has engaged in highly irregular conduct to benefit a political ally of the President."

An interesting turn of events before Judge Sullivan's hearing on the Flynn case tomorrow...
.@emptywheel pointed out the mysteriously appearing date on one of these documents the other day

The gist of the incorrect date, @emptywheel argued, is that Flynn’s team used it to argue that it was *Biden’s idea* to investigate Flynn re: Logan Act.

But it wasn’t. The meeting w/Biden was on Jan 5. And the FBI was looking into the Logan Act on Jan 4.
