I will note that being Extremely Online is a common affliction, as is its beloved child, Assuming Other People Are Also Very Online.
I write about a lot of stuff that happens largely in the world of the Online. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter, but it is important to put it into context. There are nearly 330 million Americans. Most are not frequent social media users, let alone Extremely Online.
Take whatever online phenomenon thrills or terrifies you most, then dial it down roughly 86%, and that’s probably what its relative actual influence is.

Which is the most Dad element of this — the fact that my dad has fixed virtually everything in their home single-handedly, or the fact that my parents have a clothes dryer that is 41 years old?
Many of you are saying that the most Dad thing is “device that pays for itself by allowing him to not purchase any new thing, ever” and you are likely correct

A thing @mattyglesias has smartly raised (and we’ll be discussing on The Weeds next week) is that our perception of politics is largely based on the media interpretation of politics rather than what actually happens in politics. And I think its an area where I’ve screwed up.
@mattyglesias For example, there’s been a ton of conservative discussion of economics that appears heterodox on its face (here’s where I’ve written about that discussion: vox.com/2019/1/10/1817…)
@mattyglesias But there is zero reflection of that conversation — which is real — happening in actual Congress with actual members of Congress doing actual political things.
