Early yesterday I spoke with someone named Adedeji who is a local in Lagos, Nigeria. Adedeji was in Lekki at the time attending a demonstration where they were protesting police brutality when the Nigerian army open fired on protesters.

He told me he was scared because of how the government was lying and trying to hide evidence. He said m, “the military say they were not the ones that executed the

massacre. I saw them. I saw their strategy, I saw one of them taking a video,” he tells me he even saw the soldiers dragging bodies away. He confirmed to seeing two deceased bodies with his own eyes and that his friends were eye witnessed for other deaths, claiming that at least

8 people had been killed at the time. A few hours had passed and I noticed that after live tweeting about the incident, Adedeji’s profile had gone dark. He removed his profile picture, his location, and locked the account. I soon after received this series of messages:

“Look at this. This guy was tweeting about it for 5 hours and he got killed 2 hrs back.

He got killed by police that are supposed to guard him.

It could have been me I probably wouldn’t be here to tell my story.

I’m so pained that’s why I’m typing a lot. The govt is lying!

I’m having PTSD atm looking at the toll gate right now I’m hearing imaginary shots.

Please let the world know about this gory things. They are all lying. The military wanted to do a cover-up job so they took all of the bodies of people they killed.

It was a massacre.”

After continuing our discussion and confirming he wanted his name out there he expressed that he’s already spoken to a handful of journalists and “I’ll really love for the word to be out.” He said

“I don’t care if I die tomorrow but this impunity has to stop. They shot people singing the national anthem.”
