L.A. prosecutors have filed charges against Marc Ching, alleging that the Hollywood-backed animal activist practiced veterinary medicine without a license and engaged in deceptive advertising at his for-profit pet food store. latimes.com/california/sto…
The criminal case comes after a Times investigation uncovered years of complaints by veterinarians that Ching persuaded pet owners to abandon prescribed treatment regimens and instead give their ailing dogs and cats products he sells at his business. latimes.com/california/sto…

Decades ago, the Los Angeles coast was a hidden dumping ground for thousands of barrels of acid sludge laced with the toxic pesticide DDT.

The ocean buried the evidence for generations. No one could see it — until now.

DDT wasn’t banned until 1972.

Shipping logs show that every month in the years after World War II, thousands of barrels of toxic waste were dumped near Santa Catalina Island.

As many as half a million of these barrels could still be underwater right now.
