"Peaceful" is how some people describe other people getting brutalized by the cops. So long as you don't fight back, it was a "peaceful" protest. Your cause can only be admirable if you are willing to absorb violence indefinitely and never see your demands realized. Real cute.
That's what a lot of liberals expect of people living in struggle: that they take inspiring symbolic action, absorb any and all violence respectably, without retaliation, and then accept that the injustice will continue. There's a reason people tend to resent that.
Some will say they don't expect people to accept it, but when you expect people to stay within the lines, even if doing so does not work, you are expecting them to accept the situation, and keep the status quo intact. At best you are saying they can *express* their dismay.
I am not encouraging any particular form of protest rt now. Communities will make their own choices based on what they are up against, and I hope they do so with full info about the dangers of winding up in a cage as the 2nd wave hits. I hope people stay as safe as they can.
What I will never do is treat people who are being murdered at random, who are staring down the potential end of their lives & liberty, resisting that violence like they are the problem. Whether it's a banner drop or a broken window, I am with the people. Always with the people.
I hope that those of you who once held that view, but abandoned it out of fear, will reclaim it in the months ahead. The law is not a moral instrument. The system is a serial killer, a rapist and a force of annihilation, and the status quo is a death march.

The "just talk about the tasks in front of you" stuff, while probably really good advice for some people, does not feel great to people who have been sounding the alarm for years. The idea that we should pipe down now, when everything is coming to a head, does not sit well.
I get that the mechanics & possible trajectories of what's happening could, for some, serve as an upsetting distraction from the tasks at hand, but people who have relentlessly told the truth about what we are up against have never been the problem and will never be the problem.
Also, what sounds like catastrophizing to some people is, to others, just a frank discussion of the things that could imminently happen to them. We get to talk about that shit.

People need to remember that Trump's children and their spouses aren't simply relatives. That family is a crime syndicate. Look at how much money his kids & their spouses have made during his presidency.
I am also sorry to remind folks that if Trump is arm twisted into conceding, he will make a deal, in exchange for a transition of power, that insulates his family -- not bc he cares about his children but bc they are key players in his financial schemes.
I also think his problems with his creditors could potentially be mopped up in exchange for a transition of power. Not in an immediate, obvious, bribe-like way, but through fully locked down assurances that certain financial events will unfold that would make it all okay.

People who hate follow folks are some of the most boring, sad ass people on here. Imagine doing your best impression of a fruit gnat and thinking you're clever.
Some dude recently was like "you're a dingbat" LOL. And this was a real person. A real person who took the time to follow me and pick a tweet to respond to it with that devastating zinger.
So bored. So sad.

In February, during Trump’s sham Senate removal trial, a team of Chicago organizers held a rally in Daley Plaza & gave Trump the trial he deserved. After hearing the case against Trump, we locked arms and made a joint commitment to remove him. Event page: facebook.com/events/3701306… Image
Now we've lost hundreds of thousands of people to Trump’s genocidal COVID-19 response. On Nov 2nd we will again hear from organizers who will detail his crimes & why we must #RemoveTrump. We will also pledge to continue our fight for a more justice world. zoom.us/webinar/regist… Two hands holding a heart a...

This is why I talk about how fascism changes us, whether we are conscious of it or not. It doesn't just affect its adherents. It shifts the moral ground beneath our feet and makes us more capable of tolerating atrocity. We must build around our collective well being instead.
People sometimes hear me say "we must resist the further normalization of mass death" and say it is already fully normalized. They simply are not talking about the level of human disposal, suffering and potential extermination that I am.
Fascism is not the process of people who didn't suffer before suffering alongside those who always have. It involves a lot people who didn't before getting fucked over AND people who were already getting fucked over experiencing new levels of horror, suffering and annihilation.

Those fascist bitches gave their kid COVID.
I am glad their son recovered without symptoms. I fear people caged in the prison industrial complex, including migrant children, may not fare as well.
