making some last minute donations with a week to go
first up are 3 Iowa House candidates, to try & save my home state from disastrous GOP misgovernance: Christina Blackcloud, Charles Clayton, and Sara Huddleston
h/t @LauraRBelin for her great guide to IA House races
local candidates need love too!
two great Alexes running for City Council who deserve your support:
fun to hear Richard Rothstein say "YIMBY is one of my favorite organizations"
Rothstein: we've made excuses to ourselves for the persistence of residential segregation, trying to tell ourselves that it results from a series of individual actions instead of government policy
Rothstein is talking about the ways residential segregation perpetuates inequality in educational achievement through factors like disparate exposure to environmental hazards like air & lead pollution
Listening to today's #rhnamtg & staff are reporting on engagement they did with community organizations for feedback on their priorities for RHNA & the Bay Area's housing needs
funnily enough, none of the community members brought up local control π€
people in the focus groups wanted more housing, everywhere, for everyone; they were interested in making sure high resource, exclusionary communities did their fair share; some had concerns about low income residents in those areas facing racism & classism #rhnamtg
homelessness, displacement, and the need for funding were commonly raised concerns
there was interest in putting homes near transit, but concern about transit quality, safety, and reliability (a public commenter asked whether those came from transit riders or drivers) #rhnamtg
