Back at the Old Bailey today for the continuation of the trial in relation to the deaths of 39 people whose bodies were found in the back of a lorry in Essex on October 23 last year Image
Police analyst Catherine Taylor continues the timeline of events of the 22nd Oct 2019 at 1400 UK time Eamonn Harrison delivered the trailer to Zeebrugge with the container being loaded onto the ship at 1500 UK time. Harrison then moved away from Zeebrugge towards the Netherlands
On the afternoon of the 22nd Oct, Maurice Robinson was in the Thurrock area. Turning to the movement of the trailer and the ship as they crossed the Channel. The jury are now being shown an old photograph of the vessel.
Court breaks for lunch.
Police analyst Catherine Taylor confirms the trailer temperature record in the trailer rising to 33 degrees as the ferry began its journey at 1700UK time. The temperature in the open air from the day was 14 degrees.
Half degree rises as the timeline progresses to 1902 - 1922 UK time the temperature inside the trailer is 35.5 degrees. The jury are now being shown a map of the location of the ferry at 1700 and 1800 - still outside British waters.
At around 1825 one of the women in the trailer took 3 photographs of herself demonstrating the temperature inside the trailer at that time. At 1830 one of the mobile phone recovered later from inside the trailer recorded on a fitness app 35 steps taken and then to 35 degrees.
Another phone indicates that a telephone call was made at 1836 but that call lasted 0 seconds. 23 minutes later, seconds before 1900UK time, there is another 0 second phone call from another phone and the number called was "113" - the Vietnamese number for the Police.
On the phone from the woman who took the three photographs at 1901, 1902, 1903 and 1905 there were 4 calls made on her phone handset but each with a 0 second duration.
At 1914 another call was made but lasted 0 seconds. At 1900 the Clementine has still not reached British waters. At 1919 a fitness app on the phone recovered, 39 steps were taken and this is the last data recorded by the app on that particular device.
1922 there was another attempt to make a call - the temperature is now 36 degrees between 1932-1942. During this time frame an audio file was recorded found on a handset "It's Tuan. I am sorry [to his wife and child]...
...I cannot take care of you. I am sorry [to his mother]. I am sorry [to his whole family]. I cannot breathe. I want to come back to my family. Have a good life." That's at 1938 UK time.
1943 the Clementine passes into UK Territorial Waters. The temperature at that time reached 36.5 degrees. At 2000 the temperature on the deck was 13 degrees - that's outside the trailer. At 1955 there is another call from a mobile phone recovered from inside the trailer.
2002 on another phone recovered a video file is created, a video showed a black screen for the duration of the video recording. I can't breathe. Nguyen Dinh Luong, Thanh Loc [Township], Can Loc [District], Ha Tinh [Province]. I can't breathe. I'm sorry [to his parents].
I have to go now. [In the background] Another voice says - "Come on everyone. Open up. Open up." At 2004 another video on the same phone shows a black screen but can be heard - "I have to go now" I'm sorry [to his parents]. Then a long pause "It's all my fault".
[In the background someone is heard to say] "He's dead" The translator who was responsible for translating this said "I couldn't hear what he was saying at all. All his words rolled over each other.
The temperature at this time is 37 degrees. At 2057 UK time there is a screen grab taken from a phone recovered displaying messages saying "No internet connection" the notifications on the screen are referring to "Fast charging is in operation" and "Torch turned on".
This is evidence of activity on the handset, says the prosecution. Within minutes of that screen grab it is now 38 degrees inside the trailer. Minutes after rising to 38.5 degrees. Between 2200 and 2230 it is believed that the Co2 in the trailer reached the toxic threshold.
The prosecution say this is not agreed evidence in reference to the timing. At 2252-2312 the temperature inside (an hour after the last reading) has come down, it is now 38 degrees. Ten minutes on from 2312 it is 27.5 degrees.
2352 it is 37 degrees in the trailer. (***That previous tweet should have said 37.5 degrees at 2312***)
And the temperature continues to drop as the trailer docks at Purfleet Port. When the Clementine reached Purfleet the temperature is around 36.5 degrees.
Maurice Robinson, after having visited TGI Fridays and Starbucks, a screenshot taken from his phone shows he was in Grays at 1717 on 22nd Oct 2019.
At 1740 some dash cam footage shows Robinson's lorry parked up in Eastern Avenue with a trailer attached to it. The jury hear how at 1740 there is communication between Hughes and Gormley.
A screen grab taken at 1830 is recovered from Robinson's phone - detailing the booking confirmation of the trailer from Zeebrugge. The image was sent to Robinson on SnapChat - Robinson then took a screenshot of it.
At this time there was also communication between Hughes and Kennedy. Cell site information for Nica around 2030 places him towards West Thurrock, ANPR shows his vehicle in Western Avenue, then Eastern Avenue and then Western Avenue again.
**Weston Avenue**
The jury are now being shown a parking ticket issued to Robinson's lorry. It was parked illegally in Eastern Avenue at 2045. Civil enforcement officers state that the driver of the lorry was inside the cab. He asked about parking restrictions and the penalty charge.
As the Civil Enforcement officer was taking photos of the lorry, a white vehicle pulled up by the lorry, then drove away before returning. The driver of the lorry then climbed into the white vehicle and it drove off.
CCTV shows the white Audi at a petrol station on London Road pulling around past the pumps and pulling out again before returning to London road. And then appearing on the CCTV cameras of Weston and Eastern Avenue. Driving in the direction of Robinson's lorry.
The white Audi parks on Eastern Avenue and as the interior light illuminates a figure is seen to get in - correlating with what the Civil Enforcement officer reports seeing.
At 2056 the white Audi is on the A13 heading east activating an ANPR camera. At 2100 cell site data situates Nica using the mast close to the ANPR camera.
CCTV from the Orsett Cock roundabout shows the white Audi activating ANPR cameras and cell site information situates Robinson at the same location. At 2103 the white Audi is captured passing Orsett golf club in an easterly direction towards Collingwood Farm.
2111 the Audi is seen going back the other way towards the golf club from Collingwood Farm - there are 3 minutes and 45 seconds between those two sightings.
As the vehicle drives away Robinson took a screengrab of a maps application set to satellite imagery showing the golf club, the car park and the road as well as the area of Collingwood Farm taken at 2107 (as they were driving away).
Having reached the Brentwood Road the Audi went right heading back towards the A13 at 2108. At around this time Gormley is in touch with Kennedy. Gormley is in Preston and Kennedy is in Arras in Northern France.
At the same time Kennedy is texting Ronan Hughes (who is in the Republic of Ireland at this time). They are both using the phones they purchased in Lakeside. The content of the text messages is not know.
At a petrol station further north than the earlier one, the white Audi is seen to drive into the station, captured on CCTV. The back door opens and a man wearing a checked shirt gets out - Maurice Robinson at 2136.
The white Audi then drives away, driving towards Robinson's lorry. A figure then gets out of it and can be seen walking away from it and walks towards Robinson's lorry.
Robinson was dropped back off at his lorry and then proceeded to call Hughes at 2150 for 22 seconds. Half an hour has passed and at 2217 there is a call from Nica to Robinson. But that is of 0 seconds.
Followed two minutes later by a text message, followed by another 8 seconds later. And 2 minutes after that a call Nica to Robinson for 15 seconds.
At 2330 messages between Kennedy and Gormley from their registered phones, a WhatsApp on a logistics - "change of plan when loaded head to Zeebrugge and ship trailer, details to follow...". Kennedy replies "okay". Hughes sends Gormley a text around the same time.
2340 Robinson heads from Eastern Avenue towards Purfleet. 4 CCTV clips show Robison moving away from Eastern Avenue towards the port. The first clip shows Robinson's lorry without a trailer.
A CCTV still shows Robinson waiting in his lorry, ready to pick up the trailer at Purfleet.
A CCTV still shows the Clementine docking at 0015. At 0040 the white Audi is on the A1013 Orsett to Stanford which runs parallel with the A13. Nica triggers an ANPR camera heading east.
CCTV from the golf club shows a white panel van around quarter to 1 in the morning driving to the extreme eastern edge of the car park and park up. It turns off its headlights.
At 0056 CCTV shows the trailer being pulled off the Clementine at Purfleet. The driver of that tug truck said in a statement: "I am a tug driver at Purfleet port in Essex, have been for almost 3 years. On Tues 22nd Oct I left my home in Canterbury and drove to Purfleet port...
...he details his movement before picking up the trailer... "I was given the W deck on this particular night. I remember the ship was pretty much on time this night"...
"there's no general rule on which trailer to start with... I was on to my 3rd or 4th trailer when I removed the trailer in question. I backed up my tug, hooking it up to the trailer before raising it... I then got out and connected it...
Before driving out. I got out my tug before walking down the right hand side of the trailer to place the parking brake on. I walked past the rear doors...
as I just passed the doors and reached the left hand side of the trailer I suddenly caught a strong smell, a decomposing smell."
Court breaks for 10 minutes
Continuing the timeline of events the trailer has been parked by the tug truck driver. Robinson can been seen to be moving from the waiting area at 0100. The jury are now being shown a copy of the release note marked at 0101 on the 23rd Oct 2019.
On it it says the contents are "biscuits". Cell site data shows Robinson in the area at 0102. CCTV then shows Robinson pick up the trailer and drive away.
He is then seen approaching the control booths to leave the port where he can been seen on CCTV inside the cab handing over the release form.
Another CCTV camera shows the lorry travelling away from the port at 0111 on the London Road. Now the jury are being shown a message sent to Robinson from RHughes301 by SnapChat (which Robinson screenshot) the message says "Give them air quickly don't let them out".
Robinson "me" replies with a thumbs up emoji. The time of this isn't on the screenshot but it does say "TODAY" so, correlating with the data taken from the phone, the earliest time this could have been was 0000 and the latest was 0012.
**The latest was 0112**
At 0112 Robinson was turning into Motherwell Way. The CCTV cameras that then pick up Robinson were located in Eastern Avenue. CCTV shows the lorry turning into Eastern Avenue from Motherwell Way.
At 0113 the lorry pulls up on Eastern Avenue, he walks towards the back doors. He opens the right hand door and a vapour rises from the opened rear door. Robinson stands looking in the back of the lorry, turns away and continues to stand at the back of the lorry.
He looks towards the side of the lorry before returning to the back. Looks at the back of the lorry, then away, continuing to stand at the back of the lorry before closing the right hand door and then goes back along the pavement side of the lorry (the left hand side).
At 0115 approximately the lorry remains stationary for two minutes or so after Robinson returned in the direction of the cab. At around 0116 the lorry pulls off. Driving towards Weston Avenue.
CCTV footage recovered from further up the road shows the front of where the lorry was parked. CCTV captures a figure running along Eastern Avenue in front of the lorry, turned around, run back to the lorry, climbed back in and then drove away.
While this is going on contact between Hughes and Kennedy on the Lakeside phones between 0113 and 0115. A call lasting 1 minute 32 seconds.
At 0115 GPRS data recovered for Nica and Draghici - using the cell sites around the Brentwood Rd area. At 0117 (after Robinson opened the back of the lorry) lasting 1 minute and 40 seconds from Robinson to Hughes a call was made. Finishing at 0118.
At 0118 before the call between Hughes and Robinson is terminated. A call to Robinson connects lasting 1 minute from Nica.
Robinson drives a loop for 7/8 minutes ending back in Eastern Avenue. Between 0122 and 0126 Hughes called Robinson but the duration was 0 seconds. A text sent from Nica to Robinson was sent.
Hughes attempts to call Robinson again and this time it connects. This phone call was made whilst Robinson was driving in his loop. Hughes received calls from Kennedy but they both go to voicemail.
At 0122 Robinson drives back and opens the back door, vapour escapes. He puts his hand in his pocket and then puts his hand to his ear. Then he takes his hand down. He tried to call Hughes when he got to the back of the lorry.
At 0125 Robinson rings Hughes again and they speak for 2 minutes. The CCTV shows Robinson at the back of the lorry with his right hand to his ear. He then closes the door and walks back towards the cab. And then away from the lorry. Walking up the road to the rear of the lorry.
Whilst walking away Robinson still has his right hand up to his ear. At 0126 Robinson walks back towards the lorry towards the cab.
At 0131 Hughes calls Kennedy for 32 seconds. Hughes then calls Robinson using both registered phones. The jury are now being played Robinson's 999 call.
"They're all lying on the ground. Are they breathing? No I don't think so".
"I heard a noise in the back. So I opened the door." Tell me approximately how many patients there are. "Erm, 25".... And they're not breathing? "No."
Court concludes for the day returning tomorrow at 1015.

Back at the Old Bailey again today for the continuation of the trial in relation to the deaths of 39 migrants - however I will not be live tweeting as the feed is breaking up too much. I will summarise as we go along.
This morning the jury have heard evidence surrounding the movements of each of the 39 individuals before they reached the trailer.
A number of the individuals spoke to their families about their plans to travel to the UK as they believed they could find better work and pay than in Vietnam. Some travelled to find work in nail salons, others in restaurants and others for manual work.

Emlyn Jones QC begins by tracing Eamonn Harrison's location on the 10th Oct. On this date he was in Nieppe. EJ QC says this is significant because we see him returning to this location on a number of occasions, which is important when trying to work out where the migrants joined
Eamonn Harrison returned to this location in Nieppe on the 17th Oct according to GPS data. On the 10th, he moved on to La Chapelle d’Armentiere - another place to which Harrison returns on the 14th Oct.
