I've spent years tracking + fighting against foreign disinformation campaigns. But after discovering self-described fascist groups like this, I feel the need to re-prioritize a bit. Gen-Z isn't going to save us. Trump losing won't make nazis disappear.
Patriot Front, a gang of masked kids that credits its success in red-pilling and recruiting Gen-Z white boys on platforms like @tiktok_us, is an @instagram-filter-era nightmare led by a 22-year-old Thomas Rousseau of Grapevine, TX.
It wasn't until @BuzzFeed reached out to @Twitter within the last 24 hours or so that this platform finally booted @pfthomas1488, who was tweeting stuff like veiled threats against the police who arrested him in August.
#PatriotFront has been using a secure communications app called @RocketChat as their primary means of sharing their own activities around the country (which is mostly just putting up propaganda stickers with their website on it).
I recently spoke to RocketChat's chief security guy. Because it's an open-source platform, they say they lack the means to knock PatriotFront offline. I imagine that an app update to sabotage the server "bloodandsoil[.]org" is a thing they could do though.
This Brazil-based company is looking to set stronger roots in the US, where they've got a shot to make a lot more money. However, I'm not sure that being the app that neonazi kids use to privately communicate is a good way to get investors.
So, what do we do about these neonazis? Everything within the bounds of the law to make being a fascist in the US as uncomfortable and expensive of an experience as possible.
How do we do that? Just like I got my degree: Google EVERYTHING.
How do we do that? Well, as anti-fascists (let's stop using the Fox News / Trump-promoted branding term "Antifa activists") our first priority needs to be safety.
In order to make sure that everyone is safe, we need to make sure that people know when one of their neighbors idolizes Hitler, believes in genocide, and is a member of the rebranded terrorist group that killed Heather Heyer at the Unite The Right rally in Charlottesville.
My friend @amyspitalnick of @IntegrityforUSA has been taking on nazis in court. If you don't have the time to investigate and unveil your local nazi, whatever resources you've got would be well spent if thrown their way:
Back to school: what do we get when we Google the leader of Patriot Front, Thomas Ryan Rousseau's name? Well, we see that he's been arrested recently in Texas. The state of Texas makes mugshots, arrest records, and jail records publicly available... so...
Folks like @nickmartin of The Informant have been keeping tabs on these guys for a while now.
The arrest records of Thomas and the other two nazis who were arrested with him are available online. From there we have dates of birth and full names. With DOB and full names, we can go to the county website and find unredacted records, incl addresses. documentcloud.org/documents/7013…
Records indicate that these three nazis are from Grapevine, Texas, and Midway, Utah. From there, we want to make sure that their local TV news and newspapers get those arrest records, and documents putting their activity into context.
Part of the problem with these guys is that Patriot Front isn't a household name yet, so when local media produce short articles saying a neonazi group was arrested for putting up stickers that say "Reject Poison" (meaning alcohol/drugs) it makes them sympathetic.
They then use those very same local-news pieces to recruit and build their brand. Reporters need to cover Patriot Front like @JaneLytv did: show alongside their propaganda, their hateful, racist, anti-Semitic messages. Every report on these guys needs to be clear and damning.
Now to be clear, these aren’t hacked materials. The fascists frequently organize via Telegram to mass report stories that they don’t like. These guys gave me the keys, I’m not a hacker.
And furthermore, I'm not doxxing anyone or giving out private information. I'm only discussing a public figure, Thomas Rousseau, who is the only one in the group who is allowed to operate under his real name and without a mask. (Weirdly, these guys call other people "cucks")
So, not being a hacker, I don't know how useful this kind of thing is... but a tipster just sent me Patriot Front's RocketChat subdomain info. Maybe someone out there (like @RocketChat) can do something with this publicly-available info. subdomainfinder.c99.nl/scans/2020-10-…
After over 12 years of advocacy, filing appeals, raising awareness for #badpaper... + hundreds of hours on the part of the attorney @UrbanJustice connected me to a decade ago... My discharge has finally been upgraded to Honorable.
A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who supported me!
@UrbanJustice As wonderful as it is to have this one box on my DD-214 fixed... the @USArmy couldn't let me go without leaving something on my enlisted service record to make it look like I'm a criminal. They've given me an arrest record... which, I do not have.
The new separation authority that they inserted in Box 23 says: "AR 635-200, PARA 5-14."
That translates to "Concealment of Arrest Record (para. 5-14) – If false statements regarding a juvenile or adult offense were made in enlistment documents."
Need help from Twitter world — I found a lost dog running down the street. In Takoma, Washington DC. No name or number on the collar. Can he be ID’d by the rabies tag? Going to hold until noon when the shelters nearby open. In the meantime, please help me find the owner!
I made a makeshift collar. He’s got a strong drive to go — so I’m letting him lead me — maybe he knows where home is.
Spoke to Vetco — they’re contacting the owner and calling me back.
5 days ago, I called out the @DailyCaller and exchanged tweets with the editor-in-chief over foreign admins who were involved in running their Facebook page. Thread here:
Today, I got a call from a @DailyCaller reporter looking for a statement on some scoop they think have about about VVA's liberal bias. This same reporter has reported on his perceived liberal bias of other VSO representatives in the past.
I'm very transparent about my personal politics. As are my colleagues, Vietnam veterans who have been fighting for veterans reform on the Hill for decades. I have nothing to hide. I have to wonder if this piece is some kind of retaliation for my comments last week.
Thread: For over a year, on behalf of @VVAmerica, I've been quietly waging war against foreign elements who seek to target American troops and veterans with disinformation and politically divisive content. @bkesling and @dnvolz break it down in @WSJ today
2/ Many Americans -- including my colleagues at major Veterans Service Organizations -- need to be more careful about what they share on social media, and who created it. I've found tons of sites targeting troops, veterans and police, which are run by admins from outside USA
3/ Many are from Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia, but made to look like Americans expressing their patriotism.
