BREAKING: A federal appeals court ruled that Maine could exclude religious schools from participating in their voucher program.

But the U.S. Supreme Court just ruled that this is unconstitutional earlier this year

The family is now appealing the decision to SCOTUS.
Today's decision allows Maine to continue unconstitutionally discriminating against religious families and schools

This also violates the free exercise clause of the 1st Amendment

I am confident SCOTUS will reverse this decision based on Montana vs. Espinoza (2020).
Chief Justice Roberts: "A State need not subsidize private education. But once a State decides to do so, it cannot disqualify some private schools solely because they are religious."

Yet that's exactly what Maine is doing.

15 days later, Washington Post just responded to my request for a correction.

They do not agree that claiming teachers are disproportionately represented in COVID-19 obituaries (without any evidence) warrants a correction.
The editor claims that this sentence "makes clear that this is his subjective interpretation based in his own reading of obituaries, not a representation of scientific research."

Wow.

How can you guarantee that public schools are providing appropriate reading instruction?
Private schools are directly accountable to families.
When a private school underperforms it shuts down

When a public school underperforms it gets more money.

"But public schools have fixed costs!"

Me: All businesses (including private schools) have fixed costs. That doesn't justify forcing families to shop at a particular institution.

"..."
Just imagine:

"Walmart needs to keep their lights on! You can't leave to shop at Trader Joe's!"

That would be ridiculous.

Your money doesn't belong to Walmart or Trader Joe's.

Your child's education dollars similarly don't belong to any particular institution.
And why would public schools lose funding when low-income families are given a choice?🤔

I contacted the Washington Post 12 days ago to request a correction.

They still haven't responded.
The Washington Post said "the disproportionate number of teachers appearing in covid-19 obituaries is striking."

The author has not provided any evidence of disproportionate representation.

This unsubstantiated statement should be corrected @washingtonpost.

Betsy DeVos: "We support the bipartisan School Choice Now Act which would directly fund families and empower them to choose the best educational setting for their children."
"At the end of the day we want parents to have the freedom, the choices, and the funds to make the best decisions for their children."
"The 'Washington knows best' crowd really loses their minds over that.

They seem to think that the people's money doesn't belong to the people

That it instead belongs to 'the public,' or rather, what they really mean: government."
