Characterizing Trump as "desperate", because it is so often qualified as "failing" or "struggling against the odds" is another way we underestimate him. There is little, if anything, to stop his theft of this election.
People cite his treatment of his own supporters as him 'taking everything out with him' when he's taken out of office. In fact he treats them that way because he's confident he's got his theft in the pocket and he's never cared about them.
This conclusion that he will not be held stopped can be easily extrapolated from the fact that it is only law that enforces elections and he has a crime list a mile long, including against children and babies, and nobody is stopping any of that.
The reason this matters is precisely because he cares nothing for life. His loyalties lie with international mobsters like Putin and domestic billionaires as suits him. And the escalation to money matters and life does not will ramp to levels incompatible with anything tolerable.
He plays this game of acting desperate in part to keep us from rising to oppose him.

At some point in the next few weeks we will lose our ability to fight back. And ppl locked to blind faith in institutions he's broken and an election that can't be enforced by us (not with any amount of lawyers) are going to be so crushed they will be useless in fighting back.
That is the cost of so heavy a demoralizing blow. It withers the spirit. And that is another reason for them gaming us -- wanting us to jeer at how desperate he and the GOP are. To build our faith as solid as cast iron so that it shatters instead of bends.
Our hope lies in keeping him from winning by actual vote count -- or even close, and then rising to actually enforce it. We must bend like a willow and snap back hard. But we can only do that with truth. Especially about something so obvious.
That is the plan. And the mentality must be strong and ready.
