Johnny Depp has lost his libel case against The Sun - it's a complicated story, but what it means is that a judge ruled an article claiming Depp assaulted his ex-wife Amber Heard was "substantially true" so Depp failed in suing the newspaper over it bbc.co.uk/news/uk-547794…
Important to remember here that this was a media law case - Depp was suing The Sun for libel, meaning he was saying the newspaper published something that wasn't true about him that damaged his reputation (the judge didn't agree). Depp wasn't in court accused of assaulting Heard.
He was the one doing the accusing, saying The Sun libeled him. And Heard, although she got lots of media attention, wasn't part of this case as such - it was Depp vs The Sun.

Also, to add, as I see #JusticeForJohnnyDepp is trending: the judge saying calling Depp a "wife beater" was substantially true doesn't make any kind of judgement on whether Heard abused Depp, that wasn't what this case was about.
Depp chose to take legal action because of an article about him, so it was the truth of that that the judge ruled on. Amber Heard wasn't on trial.
More info from the judge in the BBC article now: "Taking all the evidence together, I accept that she was the victim of sustained and multiple assaults by Mr Depp in Australia," said the judge.
"It is a sign of the depth of his rage that he admitted scrawling graffiti in blood from his injured finger and then, when that was insufficient, dipping his badly injured finger in paint and continuing to write messages and other things."
"I accept her evidence of the nature of the assaults he committed against her. They must have been terrifying. I accept that Mr Depp put her in fear of her life."
Once again, this doesn't mean claims that Heard also attacked Depp have been ignored or disproved - they simply aren't part of what the judge was ruling on.
