Experiencing "election stress disorder?" You may not be alone! Consider these tips from UMBC's @iganson:

1. Be aware that this Election Night may not resemble those you saw in the past. Returns will come in asymmetrically over time, meaning a winner may not be known... (1/8)
... until days after Nov. 3.

States like PA have many counties that will experience delayed mail ballot counts, while states like NC and FL will report mail ballots quickly. It's complicated! Be patient!

Of course, a clear E-Night winner is also possible!

2. Double down on your self-care! Practice your favorite hobbies, read a book, & get some exercise. Remember that we won't know anything until after 7pm ET, and even then, returns will come in over hours. Don't spend the day glued to coverage... get some fresh air instead!

3. Try to stay away from social media! Reading and posting online might make you feel like you're being fully engaged, and engagement is a good thing! But you might also consider closing down your apps and calling friends and family instead.

4. Be kind to one another! Take time on Tuesday to consider all the ways that American civic life *goes beyond* the act of voting. Ours is a country of deep civic engagement, and spreading kindness is part of that mission. Go out of your way to lift up a friend or neighbor!

5. Remember that while the presidential election has big stakes this year, local politics is just as important to "who gets what" in your community. Follow those results, & consider ways you can connect with local political groups and officials AFTER you've voted! #IVoted

6. Follow @CivicLifeUMBC and @UMBCSocSci to learn more about getting involved in politics, advocacy, and the social sciences at @UMBC. There's so much research, advocacy, and service to be done, REGARDLESS of who wins in 2020!

7. Finally, if you're struggling with feelings of stress, anxiety, worry, malaise, or depression, please consider reaching out to the UMBC Counseling Center. They have tons of great resources waiting for you!
