I've seen multiple articles this week on how families have been torn apart by politics & how we can work to heal the rifts.

They pretend it's mere differences of political opinion separating us.

It's not. These are moral issues. One can't simply hug fascist friends & move on.

I'm not an unforgiving person, but the people I cut ties with over their support of Trump have revealed themselves to me in ways I can't accept.

I don't know how much is the Fox News brainwashing & how much is outright hate & racism, but it's not worth my time to find out.

If there's one thing I've learned in my 5 decades on this earth, it's that toxic people aren't worth it. Drop them. Shun them. Your life will be better.

Now if it's your Mom & she's brainwashed, that's one thing. But if you know they see Trump clearly & still back him, dump them

Life is too short to spend it with bitter people. Let them be bitter & hateful & racist alone. You can't change them - most of them. You can only change how you let them impact your own life.

That applies only to the Trump cultists, tho. I still contend that not everyone backing Trump is in that category.

There are a sizable number of older Republicans who back Trump because they have always voted GOP & they barely pay attention to or understand the issues.

My mom never voted for Trump. She didn't vote for Hillary either because Fox News had warped her. Over past 4 years, my sister & I have talked w/ her over things like why saying "all lives matter" is wrong. Why Confederate monuments should come down. What systemic racism is...

Many of these things she honestly didn't understand. She was surprised to learn those monuments didn't go up until decades after the war. She didn't know how few crimes are committed by immigrants. She had been fed lies. She no longer watches Fox News.

She was never a Trump supporter & knew from start he was horrible. So she's not quite like others.

But she was a lifelong GOP & until 2016 had never not voted. We couldn't get her to vote Hillary (she didn't vote), but she has voted Biden. I believe she would vote Hillary now.

Factor in ignorance. Some people are simply not capable of the kind of insight that you are.

A lady in my area tried to start an "all lives matter" group. She wasn't a Trump supporter, but an elderly woman who wanted to facilitate Blacks & Whites getting to know each other.

Her heart was in the right place & it was difficult for her to understand what could be offensive about saying everyone matters. She's not a deep thinker; others aren't either.

My point is - shun the racist asses, but leave a little room open for the misinformed & clueless.
