I could be wrong in my perspective of this but I am finding a lot of romanticism of the possibility of conflict amongst Americans and as someone that survived a war, I would urge you to put that romanticised notion out of your heads.
Largely, I am not amongst those that believe there will be a civil war or a conflict in the States post-election. Some violence, certainly but a lot of it also seems dramatised and slightly fear mongering too. I think that’s almost a bigger issue. Because....
When people are fed fear constantly they tend to take that fear and direct it in the worst possible manner. I’m not against being prepared for the worst, to be clear, but some of the discourse seems downright irresponsible.
I think no matter what happens tonight, a good majority of the USA will remain the same. But it’s the most vulnerable in your society that will remain at risk. Instead of thinking about bloody riots and civil war, think how you can help the most vulnerable in your community.
Whether Trump wins or loses, racism, poverty, and the otherisation will remain a part of the ongoing issues in America. What are you going to do tomorrow, conflict or peace, to ensure the root causes of those issues are eradicated?
Mainly, since we do have a voice on social media and get to express ourselves, we should also ensure we are doing that responsibly. Feeding into people’s worst feeds is absolutely the opposite of that. Things are already bad, further fear-mongering is the least helpful right now.
