So...Florida is going to be close. It always is! Should we do a little back-of-the-envelope math? 1
R's have already gained a ton of votes on E-Day. They always do! At this rate they could end the day with a 200K-300K vote advantage over the Ds. Which ain't that much out of maybe 11.5M votes, but sure ain't nothing. 2
Of course, those numbers are just about who the voters are, not who they voted for. 3
If R's end the day with a 200K vote advantage, and Trump wins as many D's as Biden wins R's, and there are, say, 2.8M NPA voters, Biden would need to beat Trump by 7% among NPA's to win. 4
That's pretty close to the polling. And it doesn't seem crazy to think there might be more Biden R's (like @ananavarro and @AlCardenasFL_DC and @fasanomike) than Trump D's. Then he'd need fewer NPA's. 5
But a lot of R's seem to be voting today. And if R's finish the day with a 300K advantage, it gets tougher for Biden. Then he needs to win NPA's by at least 10%, or get a bunch more crossovers. 6
There's no punchline here; I don't know anything you don't know. It's going to depend on how huge a margin R's can run up this afternoon, how big Biden can win with NPA's, and how many R's ditch Trump. 7
Although honestly, the election probably depends on the Philadelphia suburbs. It's hard to imagine FL tipping this. 8
Of course, stranger things have happened, and they usually happen here. So vote! It might come down to 537 of you. END
Here's a 1:30 update, R's now up 137K but still missing Miami, where turnout is apparently pretty heavy.
Here's 2:30 p.m., now including Miami. R's still expanding their lead but not quite so quickly.

Just got off the phone with a Dem #'s guy who gave me a pretty plausible case for Biden getting 305 EVs.
His case: There are 2.2M mail ballots left in PA, overwhelmingly urban Ds. GA still has 200K-plus mail ballots left in Atlanta area. WI still has 200K in Milwaukee, also 80-20D. And MI votes are mostly Detroit mail.
Remember: When you go to the election sites it will say Biden's getting 58% of the vote in PA. But the outstanding mail vote from PA is likely to be 75% D or higher.

I'm not a smart Republican strategist like @Timodc but I learned some stuff reporting The New New Deal, and I think his great piece about why Republican politicians are sticking with Trump despite...everything...leaves something out. rollingstone.com/politics/polit… 1
The consultants Tim talked to all basically said Republican politicians have no choice but to stick with Trump because Republican voters love Trump, and they can't afford to lose any of their voters. Which is true. But it goes beyond that. 2
In a general election, Republican politicians wouldn't lose Republican voters by saying: I support Trump and hate the libs, but Bubba Wallace doesn't need to apologize for having a noose hung in his garage. As Tim says, it could help in the suburbs. But they don't say that. 3

One of the main themes of my 2018 dive into The Villages was white power. politico.com/magazine/story…
The American Legion post at The Villages (the nation's largest) stopped showing NFL games after Kaepernick. "Players taking a knee, that's bullshit!" said an 80-year-old retired stockbroker. "I'm with the president 100%: Throw your hand over your heart and protect the flag."
"All Obama did was play golf," said Louise Kneisley, a 69-year-old Villager from Rock HIll, S.C. When I pointed out that Trump plays more golf than Obama did, she didn't miss a beat: "OK, but then he goes to WORK!"

Here’s a thread about what Washington is doing with $2T of your money and what it reveals about Washington. If you prefer the storified version, I wrote about it ⁦@POLITICOMag⁩. 1 politico.com/news/magazine/…
The craziest thing about the emergency pandemic relief package that Congress passed virtually unanimously and Trump signed Friday is that it doesn’t do the things the experts say are needed to stop the pandemic. 2
South Korea tamed coronavirus with an unbelievably massive testing regime and an unbelievably aggressive SWAT team-style public health approach to coordinate testing, tracking, isolation, quarantine, etc. The $2T legislation doesn’t fund that for America. 3

I went to an obscure hearing today in the Danish Parliament. It blew my mind, not because of the substance, but because the US Congress has totally warped my view of hearings. And I’m just dorky enough to do a thread about it. 1
First of all, there was a dais in the hearing room, just like any congressional hearing, except the politicians weren’t on the dais. The six experts who were testifying were on the dais. Can you imagine? As if the hearing was about them and not the politicians? 2
The politicians were sitting in the front row of the audience. They all stayed in their seats for the entire hearing. And do you know what they did? They listened! I was in the second row and I didn’t see any of them look at a phone or talk to an aide at any time. 3
