"A shell fell on our building and forced us to leave: me, my husband and kids, my parents, my sisters Samar and Nada, and my brothers Shadi, Muhammad and Mahmoud with their families – 25 people altogether. >
Eventually we headed south, until we reached the checkpoint the army set up in the Netzarim area. The soldiers ordered us to sit on the ground. I was told to take my clothes off, and I stayed in my underwear. >
Then they let me get dressed again, and I sat down next to Samar my sister. They covered our eyes. Samar asked who was sitting next to her, and I said it was me. Two hours later, I called out to her again, and she didn’t answer. I didn’t know where she was. >
1/5 The 2.2 million people of Gaza are going hungry. This is not a byproduct of war but a direct result of Israel’s declared policy, which denies them food. Gazans now depend entirely on supplies from outside, as they can no longer produce almost any food themselves.
2/5 Most cultivated fields have been destroyed, and accessing open areas during the war is dangerous in any case. Factories and warehouses have been bombed or shut down due to lack of supplies, fuel and electricity; stockpiles in private homes and stores have long since run out
3/5 Instead of allowing enough food into Gaza, Israel is letting in only a fraction of the amount entering before the war, with limitations on the types of goods, how they are brought in and how they are distributed within Gaza.

Together with other Israeli human rights and civil society organizations we sent yesterday a letter to @POTUS asking him to use his influence to change Israel's policy and prevent deterioration of the already catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
In the letter (also printed as an advert in todays @nytimes) we wrote " You have the power to influence our government to change its policy and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, in accordance with Israel’s legal obligations and the needs of the population."
"in a speech you later gave in Israel, you made it clear that Israel has the right to defend itself, while emphasizing it must do so only in accordance with the provisions of international law, and particularly the rules of war." btselem.org/press_releases…
