Election results: USA TODAY Washington Bureau Chief Susan Page discusses Arizona, Georgia and other battleground states. twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1…
Washington Bureau chief @SusanPage shares the story of how Joe Biden visited his son Beau's grave on Election Day. Beau urged his father to run for president in 2016.
.@SusanPage says legal scholars tell us these cases filed by the Trump campaign don't have solid grounding.
What purpose do they serve?
- slow things down
- give the president the ability to make a case to his base that he didn't actually lose
.@SusanPage makes these points clear:
- A candidate conceding does not matter
- News media projections do not matter, they are just guidance
So what matters? States certifying the election results.
2020 elections editor @AnnahBackstrom says she thinks a major mental health crisis could be on the way after this contentious, long election.
Congressional reporter @nicholaswu12 answers questions from our readers across platforms.
Q: Is it legal for a presidential candidate to declare victory?
A: There is no law against that. What matters is certifying the election results.
.@rana_cash, editor of @SavannahNow says there was a lawsuit filed last night in Savannah, Georgia. It has already been dismissed. She says that could be what we see happening in other cases around Georgia.
.@rana_cash says Georgia is solidly a purple state.
Tune in tomorrow at 1 p.m. EST for another episode of "States of America," hosted by @SusanPage.

Without evidence, President Trump falsely attacks voting integrity and alleges election interference as he trails Biden in electoral votes usatoday.com/story/news/pol…
President Donald Trump appeared to shrug off his Democratic challenger Joe Biden's growing lead in the presidential election and made baseless claims that the election was driven by fraud and corruption.
"If you count the legal votes I easily win. If you count the illegal votes they can try to steal the election from us," Trump told reporters in the White House briefing room, repeating a statement his campaign sent out earlier Thursday on his behalf.
"In America, the vote is sacred. It’s how people of this nation express their will. And it is the will of the voters … that chooses the president of the United States of America,” Biden said in a brief statement.
"Each ballot must be counted.” Democracy can be “messy,” Biden said.
