It all started in October 2016 when the Common Law lawyers in the two #Anglophone regions in Cameroon went on strike in relation to the infringement of the Common Law amongst others by the Government of Cameroon. Lawyers were teargassed and beaten in public like common criminals.
In November 2016 the teachers too went on strike for many reasons among which were;
On 08/12/2016, the population went out to protest against excessive taxes without the government being able to provide basic necessities like water or lights etc. The protesters met with unlawful force from military killing at least 15 & injuring more @hrw amnesty.org/en/latest/news…
In Jan 2017 the Government without solving the problem began arresting the leadership of the lawyers & the teachers. Some fled into neighboring Nigeria for safety as they saw Nigeria as a more Democratic Nation. @akk#EndAnglophoneCrisis@voglerk@berlinliebich@hrw
The government of Cameroon showing so much bad faith, the Leaders decided it was no longer safe to continue in the illegal union between both States. So in early 2017, the crisis was no longer an issue of Basic infrastructure, or infringement of laws but now the Full Restoration.
On 30th of November 2017, at the "Nsimalen" President Paul Biya declared war on the People of #SouthernCameroons a.k.a Anglophone Cameroon. As a result, military was deployed to every town, village etc. They started killing, rapping our girls, torturing our children @africatechie
On 5th January 2018 Nigeria proved to be unsafe as most of the leadership who sought refuge in Nigeria were abducted and deported to Cameroon. Were most of them have been in detention under horrible conditions. @Amaka_Ekwo@hrw@ConcernedNIG@OfficialPDPNig@LNCtoday@MBuhari
Since the abduction and unlawful deportation of the Leaders, several other arrests have taken place including the #Taraba39. Just as the Leaders who were mostly refugees or asylum seekers so were the 39 young boys arrested in Taraba State and taken back to Cameroon. @adeyanjudeji
Since 2016, the military loyal to President Paul Biya one of the longest serving Presidents in the world, has been killing, rapping, torturing the civilians. In order to protect themselves, they had to resort to various methods of Self-Defense which is a legitimate right. @R2P
And today, we can see all sorts of human rights violations being committed. Children are being killed while in school, some while asleep. Young buys of military ages are being shut at gun point. The question remains. How do we get lasting peace & solution to the crisis? @hdcentre
