Thanks to all the messages and DMs about our running shoe discussion at #therapylive today. To save myself time here’s a thread with all the references I alluded to.... (1/8)
(3/8)... In a move we’ve seen many make, such historic approaches have been disregarded in favour of the comfort filter paradigm discussed here: bjsm.bmj.com/content/49/20/… (note: don’t forget... it’s just a theory!) #therapylive
(5/8)... Interesting work from rugby league here, where those that self selected shoes on comfort alone had greater injury rates: tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.108…#therapylive
(6/8)... And can we even trust runners to appraise such things? (Remember they rarely get their own foot strike pattern right either 😜): tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.108…#therapylive
(7/8)... Take home messages: We aren’t saying don’t pick a comfortable shoe. Let’s just maybe stop pretending it’s something it’s not, and stop selling it as having magic linkages with injury reduction? That is just a theory, and is unfounded (at this time) #therapylive
(8/8)... Runners serious about minimising injury risk would do well to understand that time, money and energy is FAR better spent looking away from their shoes and toward bigger wins (sleep, nutrition, training habits etc) #therapylive
(BONUS) And for those asking about my Rubik’s cube times (seems there’s more super-nerds out there than just me!), it averages 2.5 mins per solve at present 😆
