We talked to 75 insiders in and around both campaigns to tell the story of how Biden prevailed and Trump fell short in an unforgettable election. Here's what we learned 👇

Communication between the Trump campaign and Republican National Committee broke down for much of the final stretch, and the two sides clashed over strategy.

The RNC thought Trump’s ads were of such low quality that it created its own commercials

Trump offered to cut his campaign a check heading into the final week of the race. His advisers told him it wasn’t necessary — the campaign had enough resources

Joe Biden has won the White House, toppling Donald Trump after four years of upheaval and making him the first one-term president in more than 25 years politi.co/2Iet8U8
Trump is the first president since 1992 to fail to win a second term. But the close results in many key states — coupled with a lackluster performance by down-ballot Dems — will leave both parties facing an identity crisis unlike any in recent history politico.com/news/2020/11/0…
The election fell short of the sweeping mandate many Democrats expected. The narrow margins reinforced how polarized the electorate remains, and Biden may be stymied by a Senate that appears likely to remain in Republican hands politico.com/news/2020/11/0…

Welcome to Election Day 5. Joe Biden is on the cusp of history. Donald Trump and the GOP base aren’t ready to let go.

These are the three storylines to watch Saturday as Biden — and everyone else — waits for the call 👇
politico.com/news/2020/11/0…
1️⃣ Trump is almost done

The map was bleak for Trump at the end of election night, and his prospects have only gotten worse as the days drag on. Now, Trump is fixated on legal efforts that are the longest of long shots, unlikely to alter the result.

2️⃣ What the heck are the decision desks doing?

Few people expected the election to be called on election night, given the deluge of mail-in ballots to be counted. But lots of people expected it to be called by now.

As of now, based on what we know at this moment, Joe Biden has all but wrapped up the presidency.

Here are 4 things our @playbookplus authors are focused on as we move out of election season, and into lame duck and a new season of governing:

1. Will there be a Covid-relief bill?

Speaker Pelosi called for Republicans to re-enter negotiations this morning, which is a sign she’s ready to get down to business. But we have no idea what the Trump administration will do now.

2. How will Dems view their mandate?
At the end of the day, it seems like Biden would be the first president in decades to begin his presidency without both chambers of Congress, which would limit his ability to execute some of his agenda

Donald Trump will wake up Friday on the brink of defeat, still lagging in Arizona and Nevada and with Joe Biden steadily gaining on him in Pennsylvania and Georgia.

Here are the three storylines that will dominate the day 👇politico.com/news/2020/11/0…
1️⃣ Trump’s almost out of time
• His lead was rapidly evaporating overnight in Pa.
• In Nevada, Biden was ahead by about 11,400 votes. Most votes left to count are from Democratic Clark County.
• Early Friday, Biden overtook him by 917 votes in Georgia.

2️⃣ The sounds of GOP silence
A body of prominent Republicans haven't really called Trump out for his attacks on the integrity of the election or baseless claims of victory. The silence is functional encouragement to fight on.
