Nicola Sturgeon yesterday made clear Glasgow/Lanarkshire could move to Level 4. She said there had been a "levelling off of the quite marked increase in cases" several weeks ago, but said: “That levelling off is not a decline.And it is a levelling off at still quite a high level"
Nicola Sturgeon: "...So we have to judge for Glasgow, for Lanarkshire, for other areas: Does keeping the current restrictions, and it may well be that this is the case, allow us to continue to, to move that to a declining position, or do we need to think about something more?"
Public health expert @andrewleedr on BBC yesterday told how Scottish Government's decisions on tiers today depended on the overall aim - is it "keeping a lid" on virus and opening up society more, or "elimination".
Dr Andrew Lee: “There’s a key question your policy decision makers have. Is the purpose here to keep a lid on infections that allows better society to function. In which case, the trends at the moment are good. Or is it about elimination - ... "
Dr Andrew Lee: "... Getting numbers close to zero, like what they’ve done in Australia? Because the two require different measures. If you want to get to near zero or zero, then actually, you've got to move faster and harder and be far more robust in your response.”
