Expected by heartbreaking report.

We thought we would list some of the things we have been doing in response to previous LeDeR reports as it’s been one our main priorities as a team. Let’s hope it helps others with their plans of action. Be ready for a thread... please do share the bits you find useful 📝
Firstly resources. We have made so many resources that we share for free on our website macintyrecharity.org/our-expertise/… from films, to East Read to booklets to posters..
We looked at the top causes of death listed within the LeDeR report and began to identify related best practice resources, we share these on the staff Intranet. Where we found gaps, we made the resource. For example : Sepsis Easy Read macintyrecharity.org/download/file/… @UKSepsisTrust
One of our key successes in this area is the introduction of the Anticipatory Care Calendar from @innovationnwc it is a tool that records signs of deterioration for people with a learning disability. We train ALL staff in this tool and it improves access to healthcare
Each person has a Baseline Health Assessment that records what is normal. This is so that in 20 years time (or 5,or 2) we can prove (evidence) to health professionals the changes we are noticing. @JoandJess will be sharing soo. how families have been involved in this ☺️
If you want to read more about our Health Recording work, we made a case study in 2018 that we shared then to our website macintyrecharity.org/download/file/…
Back to resources for a mo, we also began to raise awareness of Cancer Screenings and Annual Health Checks. This is all recorded and reviewed monthly on the Anticipatory Care Calendar @innovationnwc but we also decided to make a poster macintyrecharity.org/download/file/…
We have an End of Life Care Steering Group, that brings together various specialists and operational colleagues (@SarahOrms @jane_nickels @peachey_kirsty @LauraSe98996100 @NicolaP321 @SadieScott50 to name a few). The key focus of this group is to respond to @leder_team reports.
We review what has been published in the LeDeR reports, compare against internal data, look at best practice already in existence, share and identify gaps and methodically work through what is needed moving forwards.
This year we reviewed the 4th annual LeDeR report and as an action from that we decided in addition to sharing & creating resources, we would also host a steam of monthly webinars focussing on the top causes of death, these were recorded to share with teams...
The monthly webinars so far focussed on pneumonia, aspiration pneumonia, & constipation. We ask people to guest speak, for example Sheila Handley joined us to share Richard’s story. This month’s webinar is Epilepsy. Next month is Heart Conditions. If you specialise get in touch
We have asked @BILD_tweets to host these webinars on an external platform next year, and we have offered to share what we have done internally #WorkingTogether #improvingOutcomes
I haven’t even started how we involve people supported. This has been the heart of everything we have do. We employ two people with a learning disability on the Health team, and we work with the Keep Going...Don’t Stop team in Chesterfield.
You can find out more about the work that the Keep Going..Don’t Stop achieve here: macintyrecharity.org/news-blogs/kgd… This led them to winners of the Dimensions 'Learning Disability and Autism Leader's List 2019' in the category of 'Work and Education'.
Last year Keep Going.. Don’t Stop made a pack about going to the Doctors macintyrecharity.org/download/file/… Again back to our first thread. All resources we share for free on our website.
Annually for the last 3 years we have run Roundtable discussions with @bethyb1886 based on operational need. We shared in Case Studies the impact. Found on our website macintyrecharity.org/our-expertise/…
The round tables with @bethyb1886 were such a success, we decided to share with you exactly how we do it, and even provided you with templates and a guide. macintyrecharity.org/our-expertise/…
This all led to us being recognised as a best practice example in Government Guidance: gov.uk/government/pub… @bethyb1886
There is so much more to share, we are ‘doers’. We know many brilliant other organisations are out there also doing incredible work too. We meet monthly with Health teams in @DimensionsUK @Choice_Support @FPLD_Tweets and others to discuss overlap and like-minded thinking 🙌🏻
But now we are publicly requesting a Call to Action from people across Health and Social Care, and the voluntary sector to come together in response to the latest Covid19 LeDeR report. gov.uk/government/new… Will you stand by our side and think big, committing to more action?
