WHEN COMING OUT MEANS KICKING OUT

I've come to realise that many of these churches, like in my cartoon today, do not think that what they're doing is evil.

They have rationalised their actions and really believe that they're doing the "right thing".

They disagree with an "idea" that contradicts their beliefs and they remove or restrict those who believe or live or embody that idea. The idea can be many things. Often it is more than an idea, it is a soul, wonderfully and uniquely shaped and worthy of genuine love and kindness

In these actions of exclusion and rejection, they really do think they love that person and that these actions are for the best. They wish them well. They "bless" them.

But they also cast them out.

This is actual harm they're inflicting on real people. On many levels.

It is spiritual terrorism where you murder the souls of those you fundamentally disagree with, who are just trying to exist as they are.

Can we understand the way this rejection and ejection hurts and that the act of welcoming and accepting is radical in response to this spiritual terrorism?

We replace that insincere "love" with real love and acceptance.

It allows for growth and love and community where there was none before, for anyone who comes out. We don't kick out or reject.
