Thread: Stanley Spencer (1891-1959) was an eccentric English painter whose work has not received the attention it deserves. He painted unique religious paintings & idiosyncratic nudes, scenes & portaits. Self-portrait (1914), Cottages at Burghclere (1927-30) & Love Letters (1950) ImageImageImage

Thread: One of my favourite art galleries is in Edinburgh. The National Gallery on the Mound is one of the great treasures of Scotland. Here’s why a trip to the Scottish capital is incomplete without visiting this small, yet perfectly formed, collection!
The gallery has a great group of early Renaissance works. Detail from Botticelli’s Virgin Adoring the Sleeping Christ Child (c1490), Leonardo’s Study of Dogs Paws (c1480) & Raphael’s Drawing of A Kneeling Nude Woman (c1518)

Thread: It’s not every day that Fascism drops a mailer in your post box. Here three of Ireland’s far right extremist groups are sending misinformation. Let’s take a look at their very dodgy & cruel claims.
Firstly they take a quote out of context by Dr Nabarro of the WHO.

In fact the expert went on Irish radio to dispel the interpretation of far right cranks. Essentially he wanted to avoid lockdowns by having effective test & trace amongst other measures.

They claim that lockdowns discourage the sick visiting drs & delay seriously ill getting help. This is not backed up by any stats evidence. As usual GPs & Emergency are still available. In fact a family member was admitted this week, op on & discharged. hiqa.ie/sites/default/…

Thread: Happy Birthday Isamu Noguchi (1904-88). He was a Japanese-American artist, sculptor, landscapist & designer whose work continues to be influential. His integration of Western & Eastern art movements to create organically satisfying objects was unrivalled
Born in LA, he travelled with his mother to Yokohama (1906) where he was named Isamu (Courage). By 1912 they were in Chigasaki where the youth oversaw the building of their house & he was apprenticed to a carpenter.
