So like...did we ever find out why David Brooks was tweeting about NBA Youngboy on election night? Or have we all just decided to move on?
The simplest explanation is that one of his kids tweeted it from his phone/computer as a joke.
However
It's far from clear that David Brooks even has any children who are currently of NBA Youngboy-appreciating age
Was he hacked? No, that's also unlikely: It's such a strangely specific thing to tweet, and the tweet is still up I'm pretty sure, and also he never claimed he was hacked, and also David Brooks's Twitter getting hacked wld've been enough of a big deal or us to have heard abt it
Could it literally be true that David Brooks only stays up late under two circumstances: Waiting for returns to come in during a close national election, and while listening to NBA Youngboy? Folks, I really just don't see it
Could it just be a joke? As in like, an actually really well executed joke? This is gonna haunt me to The Grave, folks
If anyone's in a position to share his email address DM it to me and I will ask him about The David Brooks NBA Youngboy Tweet in respectful and journalistically dispassionate fashion

She's too hard on Dahl in places—even if his books r morality tales that flatter their readers' sense of greivance in various sinister ways, they're still really great stories, and the dark bits are uncanny & memorable while being calibrated juuuust to a level children can handle
Now, that said...her case that the Witches is the Protocols of the Elders of Zion for kids is, uh, really fuckin convincing? And the implications of such a thing even existing, never mind being read and celebrated for 40 yeras, are pretty disturbing tbh
Good: Much longer flattening of the curve than other states, easy and plentiful testing, caution re: reopening
Bad: Lotsa deaths, the nursing homes disaster/attempted obfuscation, inconsistent treatment of diff communities re: Red Zones, education disaster, rule by decree...
Good: Communication/reassurance of the public, exhibition of intangible qualities that cohered into "Leadership"
Bad: Hardcore fucking with the entire service industry, weird statements about the vaccine, fits of self-delighted lunacy like The Poster
HIVE MIND: A friend of mine is having a minor crisis and needs your help. He writes: "I've been trying to think of a show or movie for the last days days based on a minor plot point...
"It involves a guy like housesitting or something, and somehow leaves a door open or something like that (or breaks a window), and a pet rabbit/bunny gets out and escapes. So he drives around looing for it and finds a different rabbit who looks similar...
"...and he puts mascara or other makeup on it and it passes for the other rabbit. And the episode ends with a shot of the real rabbit hanging out in the yard." Anyway, maybe @BrettRedacted or @zhandlen can shed some light on this one? No small amount of inner peace is at stake
Jones argues in here that there's no melodic progression in hip-hop because the beat repeats every 6 bars—unlike in jazz, where the music is highly dynamic and variable and can convey an almost infinite range of feeling and experience... vulture.com/2018/02/quincy…
He's right but only to a point: The best hip-hop is not mindlessly repetitive. There actually is a progression; it just doesn't come from melody as a more traditionally and/or jazz-oriented pop mind might understand it. And that's OK. His is a view worth considering imo
