#WhatAreciboMeansToMe: More than a telescope, Arecibo is the reason I am even in astronomy, and has had an incalculable impact in the communities of PR. A thread š§µ.
I started my astronomy career a little bit over two years ago, when I joined the spectacular @PlanetaryHabLab! I started working with them in radio astronomy using the Arecibo Observatory right here in Puerto Rico.
However, long before that, it was my visits as a kid to the Observatory, when my parents would take me to learn about the Solar System and the Universe, that really drove me to care about astronomy.
What I love the most about working with Arecibo is how it is a community institution; it has broadened Puerto Rican participation in science in immeasurable ways.
Not only has this amazing instrument made incredible discoveries in planetary science, atmospheric studies and radio astronomy, but it is itself an amazingly meaningful institution for Puerto Rico. We need to #SaveArecibo, we did it once and we can do it again.
