I keep thinking about my aunt and uncle. They’re kind, loving, smart people. She’s a vet and he’s a social worker. And they think Bill Gates is going to use vaccines to implant microchips in us.
The best thing I’ve seen about this was what someone on here tweeted about people knowing that something, many things, are really wrong here, but not knowing exactly where to place that, so they turn to conspiracy theories.
Again my aunt and uncle are smart and loving people. To me their view comes from a subconscious desire to simplify the problems we face. Thinking Bill Gates wants to microchip us with a vaccine is in some ways easier than grappling with capitalism and oligarchy.
The main reason it felt helpful to tweet this is to expand people’s view a little on who conspiracy theorists are. My aunt and uncle are not Trump voters, in fact they hate him. They’re a vet and a social worker, and they got their graduate degrees at Ivy League schools.

Thousands of people are preparing to stop a coup, if Trump tries one in two weeks. Here’s a thread of some ways to plug in to these efforts.
1. ShutDownDC is an amazing groups. They’re doing zooms, posting resources, and getting ready to shut down DC if necessary. Check them out at @ShutDown_DC and the website in their bio.
Also - the NYPD saying this most likely has absolutely no connection with actual disciplinary action.
“The department says officers should wear masks at all times when performing duties in public areas except when social distancing is possible or when eating or drinking.”
Yeah still a joke. They didn’t care when 1000s were dying and they don’t care now.
If only anyone had been in a position to help stop the spread of COVID in this country
I see people making the very reasonable point that he could be lying. I don't see him lying that he has the virus when he doesn't. I see him being a sociopath and ignoring this situation yesterday, and only admitting it once he has to. But who knows anymore. We'll see.
A group of several hundred protesters is currently sitting on the Brooklyn Bridge, taking over the Manhattan bound side. Organizers have told them to "get comfortable."
