There has been some promising news about a vaccine, and treatment for Covid-19. But what are the steps needed before one can be available for use?

Thread ⬇️
The FDA's review process normally takes about six to 10 months. An emergency use authorization could change all that.

The FDA's advisory groups meets on Dec. 10. but we may get a hint in the days leading up the meeting, when it releases its staff report…
If emergency authorization is approved, Pfizer and federal and state government officials have been preparing to help distribute the vaccine within days.
But it's not just the FDA. The CDC also must make their own recommendations on who should get a vaccine first, with health-care workers expected to be the first to receive it.

Manufacturers will still need to apply for regular approval from the FDA
It's worth remembering too how much progress has been made. Michael Kinch, a vaccine specialist, said the collaboration to make a vaccine possible may well be "likened to the Apollo program" by future generations
Tackling Covid-19 is also a global battle, and G-20 leaders are also set to pledge that the world's biggest economies will dedicate themselves to financing equal access to Covid-19 testing, treatments and vaccines
U.S. President Donald Trump told his counterparts that any American who wants the vaccine will be able to get it, but stayed quiet on granting access to American vaccines by the rest of the world

🦠 Here's an idea: should governments pay people to get a Covid-19 vaccine?

Is paying for vaccinations an ingenious idea that will save lives and livelihoods? Or is it an undue government intrusion into people’s lives?
Those are questions posed by Peter Coy, who says it's a debate the world needs to have.

💉 The news out of vaccine trials have been promising, but ultimately it's meaningless if people don't take them.
The idea of paying people to take care of themselves isn't new, Coy writes.

There are health insurance providers that reduce or waive premiums if you exercise frequently. That actually punishes those who don't participate, but it feels less coercive.

Trump, without evidence, suggests nefariousness in the U.S. election process
It should be noted, very prominently, that counting votes is not stealing votes, @dwallbank writes #Election2020

We always knew mail-in and early votes in the upper Midwest would take a long time to count.

That is the case tonight
