Shocking to see the "independent review" of @WWF came up w/ NO EVIDENCE of any participation in HR abuses despite knowledge of multiple incidents, appointment of park managers, failures to investigate, and various forms of support to ecoguards. @SIIDgroup@biosec_erc@IUCN_CEESP
The report's condoning of the use of private security forces in PAs occupied by armed groups speaks to one of the weaknesses of the ILC draft principles #PERAC re: protected zones and the loss of PZ status upon military presence @detoxconflict@EnvPeacebuild@UNEP@IUCN_PA
The organisation also seems to dodge liability in the same way transnational corporations do, dispersing authority, oversight and accountability across borders so at the end of the day, no one's responsible for the atrocities that happen. @wbcsd@IUCN_business@ohchr
Feels a little like the conservation community trying to protect one of its cash cows rather than doing the right thing for human rights and people on the ground. We need justice for conservation, but unsurprisingly this report falls short. @JConservation
