I’m at The Church of God this morning, 15 minutes out of Steinbach, which is holding a drive-in church service in defiance of public health orders. There’s already a police presence - I was warned by an officer that should I walk any closer, I’d be at risk of a $1200+ fine. #wfp
Most are staying in their cars, but some have told media they plan to visit the service in person and fight the fine in court. A pastor over the intercom warns of “exaggerated rumours of impending danger.”
Police are redirecting traffic, over the 100 cars parked. Someone’s been stopped by police for filming in their phone while driving - police are being confronted
Several tickets are being handed out. A police vehicle is blocking off the entrance to the church - a vehicle that refuses to move appears to have nearly been towed, but the tow truck has since moved.
The service is over. People are dispersing. Most people remained in their vehicles, to the point where traffic was blocked off on the highway. I’m off to defrost now.
