ICYMI: November 16 “the [US] government asserted that it has the absolute right to order the assassination of an American citizen, anytime, anywhere, including within the United States, and then claim that it is a state secret.” THREAD 1/ buff.ly/39Fe8dJ
In an oral argument before the DC Appellate Court, a Judge asked the Trump Administration’s lawyer if the US President can kill her without due process?
His response:
“There’s no recourse you can get from a court.” 2/
Trump’s Lawyer suggested people targeted by the US for execution - including US citizens - should seek remedy from Congress.
Judge responds, “Sorry, he’s supposed to try to get a bill passed?… That’s your position?” 3/
Trump’s lawyer attempted to defend his position and the Judge promptly cut him off: “No, no, no, no, no, come on. Come on.” 4/
The Judge summed up the apparent Trump Administration position for Americans on the US 'Kill List': “Tough luck. You have no rights. You have no capacity to get yourself off that list. I mean you could write letters to the government. That’s it.” 5/
The judge then added: “Listen. This is killing - This is killing US citizens. That’s quite a power to say that the executive branch has - and it’s absolutely unchecked.” 6/
Judge: “There’s no precedent for that.” END/
