Here’s a very 2020 thing I just learned about myself: this picture of the 8-year-old, 3rd grade version of me has been a meme FOR YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like, there’s merch and everything. Internet is weird. thread 👇
As far as I can tell, past me has been living an internet-meme-life as Grayson, a creation of @TeenageStepdad, since at least 2017.
I first stumbled into Grayson on IG. Scrolling through stories, I see my picture pop up. It’s a truly bizarre experience to bump into a disconnected version of yourself out there in the wild. Even weirder when it leads down a meme rabbit hole.
Here are some of my favorite versions of me. Smoking atheist rebel. Grayson Von Chevrolet. Hot dogs and Carmen San Diego.
I mean, Grayson-me is even available as a t-shirt and works as a poster child for a Patreon tier. He’s living quite the life.
27 years ago, the only place this picture lived was on a wall by my grandma’s backdoor.
In maybe ~2008 I submitted it to a laser portrait themed tumblr blog called “We Have Lasers!!!!!!!!”. It’s had its own weird internet life since.
In conclusion, here’s a Q&A:
Do you care? No. But also yes, a lot.
Is it funny? Yes.
Do you know teenage stepdad? No, haven’t talked to him.
What r u gonna do about it? This twitter thread.
Youre Freind,
-Grayson

It’s 2:30pm on a Tuesday. That means it’s time to stop & think about how crazy leafcutter ants are!
Ready?
Let’s start by just watching these Atta cephalotes cut up this leaf. Wow. Nice work ants.
Why are they cutting that leaf? To feed to this glorious fungus garden inside their nest!
Has an obligate symbiotic clump of fungus ever looked this good? If ants could subscribe to Bon Appétit, this would be on the cover. Again, nice work ants.
At maturity, those gardens support colonies of 1-8 million ants. They keep their gardens growing by harvesting 100,000s of leaf fragments per day!
Have you ever been stung by an ant? I made a video for you. I filmed something that’s never been filmed before (as far as I can tell).
This is what happens underneath your skin when an ant is stinging you!
[thread below, full video here: ]
A year ago I filmed this shot of an fire ant getting ready sting my finger. In the corner of the frame was something I hadn’t seen before. Venom being pumped out of stinger.
That’s the thing that hadn’t been filmed: how an ant pumps venom from its stinger.
It’s a crazy thing to try to film. Even big stingers, like the harvester ant one below, are thinner than a hair on your head. About 40microns wide. And the venom pumping action is faster than a blink of an eye.
