Almost every IDF combat soldier who serves in the oPt knows what the inside of a Palestinian home looks like. Because they invade them all too frequently. But for everyone else, the subject remains a mystery. So let's set the record straight on IDF invasions of Palestinian homes: 
Myth: Invasions are 'surgical operations' to take terrorists out of the picture.
Fact: According to UN figures, in 2017/18 they took place on average 267 times a month. Almost nine times every night. That's not 'surgical'. That's what's called 'routine'.

Myth: You need a court order/warrant to invade a home.
Fact: No court order or warrant necessary. In fact, even a 20-year-old squad commander can decide to invade a home for a whole host of reasons, and doesn't need the approval of a more senior commander to do so.

Fact: Let's just say it depends how you define security necessities. Arrests are for security, right? What about arresting an innocent child to squeeze names of other children who threw stones out of him? And if it were your child?

And what about 'straw widow' operations: home invasions for the purpose of using part of the house as a lookout post. Is that necessary? Even if it's to secure a road so that Israeli settlers can pray in Joseph's Tomb in the heart of the Palestinian city of Nablus, for example?
And mapping missions? Invading a house to sketch the rooms and document the people living there. The residents aren't suspected of anything. Many endure this ordeal more than once. According to our testifiers, 'information' collected in these missions is often thrown away.
And what about home invasions that are carried out as part of training exercises for the soldiers? (Just to be clear - actual Palestinian homes, with actual Palestinians inhabitants, are invaded. For them, it's entirely real.)
All of this is very much routine for many soldiers serving in the oPt and Palestinians who are forced to live their lives this way. It's about time we started taking it seriously.
