LASG has appealed to residents, royal fathers, professionals and community leaders to report incidents of illegal development in their areas to the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development and other appropriate authorities in order to stop building collapse.

This appeal was made by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development (MPP&UD), Dr. Idris Salako, during a stakeholders' engagement and enlightenment programme organised by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA).

He noted that the forum was designed to avail the residents an opportunity to understand physical planning and building control regulations in order to forestall building collapse and enlighten them on the provisions of the State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law.
Dr. Salako sought the cooperation of residents of the State in the implementation of all existing laws, while assuring that the administration of Gov.@jidesanwoolu will leave no stone unturned in ensuring compliance with all regulations put in place to stop building collapse.
The General Manager, @LasbcaA, Engr. (Mrs.) Abiola Kosegbe, stated that at the end of the stakeholders' engagement, the State government intends to evaluate inputs with a view to developing ideas and strategies that will help reduce the menace of building collapse.

The General Manager promised that the Ministry of Physical Planning and Development, as well as LASBCA, will continue to come up with reforms and initiatives geared towards the prevention of building collapse to meet global best practice.

The Lagos State Government has issued a 7-day removal notice to communities with unapproved street gates in the State, with a directive to either leave such gates open between 5 a.m and midnight or have them dismantled.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, who issued the notice on Friday, explained that the gates and structures installed without prior approval from the Ministry of Transportation contravene the provisions of the State Traffic Laws and Regulations.
Oladeinde stressed that the Ministry, in conjunction with Local Government and Community Affairs, has the regulatory authority on the installation of gates towards enhancing Traffic Management on the inner roads while protecting the lives and property of the affected communities.
