Molnupiravir: a drug that suddenly hit media headlines without any substantial credit to its name.

The evidence is based on its use in 3 ferrets.

Hardly justifies dramatic headlines such as "completely suppresses virus transmission"

Details of the study done by Georgia State University are below. The same authors published in 2019 claiming it was effective against influenza. It is not approved for use in influenza.

No human data available, phase 1 or 2.

A 2019 study on Ferrets by the same author, about its apparent effect on influenza virus.

Among numerous antiviral choices available, this drug has not been approved for use in humans with influenza.

This is the paper on Molnupiravir (also called EIDD-2801, MK 4482, Merck) being tried in Ferrets.

The main finding:

Three infected animals who received the drug apparently did not transmit virus to other animals when housed together.

A clinical trial NCT 04575884 is registered by Merck to determine the safety and efficacy in humans.

No interim results or other details are available.

There are NO PUBLISHED DATA on this drug being used in human beings - even for influenza.

Whistle-blower immunologist Dr Rick Bright had warned against promoting Molnupirivir (EIDD-2801) "a version of a 4-decade-old antiviral drug, into a Rx for COVID-19, when some earlier studies suggested EIDD-2801 could cause harmful genetic mutations"

Dr Rick Bright was director of BARDA, Biomedical Advanced Research & Development Authority & was allegedly ousted from this post following his warnings against pushing unworthy drugs for the pandemic.
He's now member of Joe Biden's advisory board.

Ethical clinical research with new drugs is a necessity, as long as facts are stated clearly without exaggeration. Many drugs have long been proposed as antiviral agents. There is nothing in published literature that makes this one anything more than a substance of interest.

Approval of vaccine is based on risk vs. benefit analysis in each country.

“The vaccine is something the US desperately needs”

-said the experts of a committee that voted 17:4 in favour of FDA giving EUA.

Why did they decide yes?

Every day in the US, about 3000 people die from COVID-19.

With the graph steadily climbing, a vaccine is something they believe could give them hope.

It is not the same situation in India. Deaths are 414/day for a population of 135 CR.

For US it is 3000/day for 33 CR.

The pandemic situation in US and India are vastly different.

US death rate is 30 times (yes, that is 3000%) that of India.

That is, for every 1000 citizens, the number of COVID deaths is 30 times more in the US.

See graphs from today.
