I listened to a lot of Bengali/English TV channels, and participated in one,to hear how TMC defends the indefensible: the murderous attack on BJP’s National President. They used 4 weapons:
1.Whataboutery 2.Irrelevancies 3.Negation (it never happened) and 4.Good old shouting.
But the most interesting was the one holding the ONLY POST in the party (anyone familiar with West Bengal politics knows there is only one holder of a POST in TMC; the rest are lampposts). She called the whole episode ‘Nautanki’! She even made fun of Naddajis name, calling him
Nadda-Bhadda-Gadda!
She had very little decency in her to begin with,as was manifest from (a) her threat to tie a rope around Modiji’s waist and (b) gesticulating about the central government pushing a ‘bamboo’. But this,to a national leader, the victim of a dastardly attack!
But why did she do this? She is no novice in politics, knows fully well the implications of such an attack!
My best guess is that she is so unsure of herself in 2021 elections that she is trying to get the centre to invoke Art 356 so that she can cash in on the resultant sympathy.

After 1947 a huge number of Bihari Muslims migrated to East Pakistan and settled there. They committed the most horrible bestialities on Hindus there. Some of these have been described in my book ‘My People,Uprooted’ and ‘Ja Chhilo Amar Desh’.
During the liberation war of
Bangladesh the Biharis sided with the Pakistanis, became Razakars, and killed Hindus and Bengali Muslims alike. Chuknagar mass murder, possibly the worst such in this subcontinent,Rayer Bazar massacre of intellectuals at Dhaka, and the Santahar train massacre were committed by them.
Even after BD was liberated they killed the famous filmmaker Zaheer Rayhan. But they became persona non grata in Bangladesh and wanted to emigrate to Pakistan. Now Pakistan did a neat bolte-face and said they wouldn’t take the Biharis back.
The Biharis then decided to get back
I was quite surprised at Mamata Banerjee’s blaming the Railways for delay in commissioning Majherhat Bridge. I am,apart from being in politics,a former Chief Engineer of Indian Railways. I was quite incensed and made inquiries from my own sources. Mamata has mixed 95% untruth
with 5% facts and dished it out. Here are the facts, simply put in layman’s language.
West Bengal PWD first proposed a ‘Bowstring Girder’ bridge for this job. Then,of their own, they changed it to a ‘Cable Stayed’ bridge which is quite a different kettle of fish and is much
more complicated. Indian Railways,a venerable institution of 167 years standing won’t pass a design lightly, least of all a cable stayed bridge. Still they approved the design,(with necessary changes) in the minimum possible time. But Railways insisted that the bridge
Today is Kojagari Laxmi Purnima. On this day Bengali Hindus worship Devi Laxmi, the Hindu Goddess of wealth, and pray for prosperity. But in pre-partition Bengal,on this day (10th October 1946) there was no jubilation among the 20% minority Hindus of Noakhali district and
Chandpur, now in Bangladesh. The majority Muslims, under the leadership of a Muslim League goon called Ghulam Sarwar, mounted an attack on them. The leaders among the Hindus were beheaded. The rest were forced to ‘embrace Islam’ or die horribly. Many, including many of
the so-called ‘lower castes’,refused to give up their religion and chose death. The usual method of conversion was to kill the cow of the household and feed a forced meal of beef. For Hindu women between seven and seventy rape was the usual thing to do. The prevalent Hindu
Recently I had expressed joy as a construction man at the completion of the Rohtang tunnel. Today I hang my head in shame at the state of the Posta flyover of Kolkata that I had occasion to see.
It collapsed in 2016 and killed 50 people. How callous can be a government
be that not even the debris could be removed in 4 years? No responsibility could be fixed for the disaster! No report made public,no discussion in professional journals from which other engineers could draw lessons and prevent similar collapses in future!
I remember the cases
of Tacoma Narrows bridge (nicknamed ‘Galloping Gertie’) and Grand Coulee Dam,both in the Washington state of USA. Both suffered disasters and both were thoroughly investigated and publicised. Yet we engineers know nothing about Posta flyover and Majherhat bridge collapses
First the CPI(M),then Trinomool governments tried to remove the ‘West’ from West Bengal, the name of the state. The intention was clearly to make people forget that there was an East Bengal, and Hindus suffered unspeakable atrocities there.
The Union Home ministry had declined
to do so. Yet the Bengali print media of Kolkata, tongues hanging out for ads and largesse from state govt, keeps on calling the state ‘Bongo’,as Mamata wanted, and not ‘Poshchimbongo’.
Some people draw the parallel of Punjab, say that the prefixes ‘East’ in India and ‘West’ in
Pakistan have both been dropped. This is a specious argument. Because in Punjab the process of partition is COMPLETE,with practically all Hindus and Sikhs having come away to India and all Muslims gone away to Pakistan. That was not so in Bengal. In erstwhile East Bengal, now
Today is also Mohandas K. Gandhiji’s birthday. A mass leader of extraordinary calibre who, with the Congress made a significant contribution to the freedom movement.
However, his birthday is the right time to dissect him dispassionately, count his pluses and minuses. Here they are
He was essentially a politician. A politician has to do wheeling and dealing and can never be a saint. The aura of sainthood that surrounds him is due to his deft handling of religion to weld Hindu masses.
His advances in ensuring social justice, especially abolition of
untouchability, are laudable. However, they were confined to Hindus. He never tried to abolish purdah,Teen Talaq or polygamy among Muslims which,as practices, are as hateful as untouchability.
His skills in manipulative politics are unquestionable. But it failed with Jinnah
