There's some large guy onstage at the DC rally named "Shofar So Great" (shofarsogreat.com/about-us/) claiming to be an Orthodox Jew who says his rabbi in Israel gave him permission to break Shabbat to support Donald Trump and blow the shofar at the Jericho March.
Now he's blowing the Trump Shofar, especially made for You Know Who. This dude is like a wizard.
Lady in Women For Trump t-shirt came onstage to praise "Yeshua ha Mashiach" -- Jesus the Messiah -- and to sing the Star Spangled Banner. Crowd shouts, "USA! USA!" Now comes Eric Metaxas praising "Yeshua ha Mashiach." Says Eric, "'Hallelujah' is American for 'praise the Lord.'"
Eric says that a man had a vision of the Jericho March a few days ago. "When God gives you a vision, you don't need to know anything else." That's his approach to this entire thing. He just asked ppl to use the code ERIC when they buy a MyPillow. Now Mike Lindell is talking.
Mike Lindell talking about all the prophetic visions and dreams he has had about Donald Trump. Then God arranged for him to meet Trump. What is so fascinating about this is how these believers think that all of this Trump stuff is directed by God.
This is important. It's why Metaxas said on Charlie Kirk this week that he didn't care about evidence. These people know by direct revelation that all of this is true. It is completely unfalsifiable. This is the right-wing Christian version of the woke CRT people's theories.
Conservative Catholic friend texts: "One generation had its
Rites of Spring, and we get...this...". Yeah. They had Stravinsky, we get a praise band.
It's FELLINI! Metaxas says Marine One will soon be hovering above the crowd. Trump is ascending from on high to bless the mighty throng. "Praise God!" says Metaxas. "Thank you Jesus! God bless America! ... That's not the Messiah, that's just the President."
Founder of Jericho March claims God poked him in the side and woke him up. "God said it's not over." Then God showed him a vision of the Jericho Marches. Then God introduced him to a woman who had the same vision. None of this, you understand, can be questioned. It's revealed.
I am a believing Christian. I believe God sometimes sends prophetic visions. If that happens, you should test them. You should question them. They require deep discernment. These Christians, though, they question nothing. Claim God's mandate for whatever they like. It's wrong!
Now on stage a shamanic Catholic priest, Fr. Bramlage, claiming to be exorcist, praying down heaven to deliver America from demons. These are real deliverance prayers. He is saying, in effect, that to oppose Trump & his re-election is Satanic. No, THIS is Satanic!
I wonder what the Protestants in this crowd are thinking about the Catholic priest addressing prayers to Mary, the saints, and the angels. And now the opera singer belting out Ave Maria. Trumpy ecumenism is a fascinating religious development.
To be clear, I believe in the power of exorcism. That's why it infuriates me to see it deployed on behalf of Donald Trump's political ambitions (or any candidates). It's profaning what is sacred. It's using something holy to literally demonize those who don't side w/Trump.
Gen. Flynn is onstage saying that his MyPillow gave him the best sleep of his life. Then he said the Our Father (got it right this time). Jesus, America, hucksterism.
This Flynn speech is important. He said, "The Courts don't decide the election, we the people decide." But later: "The rule of law is at stake." In the same speech in which he declared mob rule, not the legal institutions ordained by the Constitution, determine election results.
He also told people to ignore their minds and listen to their hearts, because that is where you determine truth. It's all about feeling. All. About. Feeling. Don't think, feel. This is 100% what Metaxas was saying this week: logic & evidence matter not.
You watch: this movement is going to end up demanding that Gen. Flynn become the military dictator of America.
Now, at the height of Flynn speech, Trump appears overhead in Marine One. Like an apparition!
Flynn: Every time they attack Trump, they're attacking you. Total identification of the collective with the man, Trump. I hate facile comparisons, but think of what Rudolf Hess said at 1934 Nuremberg Party rally: “The Party is Hitler! But Hitler is Germany, as Germany is Hitler!”
Holy cow, renegade Archbishop Vigano addresses crowd by video! Again, this is *really* significant: Trump devotion demolishing walls between conservative Catholics and Evangelicals.
"We are the silent army of the Children of Light," Archbishop Vigano tells crowd. Fighting for Trump is a holy crusade, says the man who is the most potent enemy of Pope Francis. He's talking about the Deep State now.
Interesting that Vigano, an Italian citizen, keeps talking about "our homeland," as if America was his. Is he internationalizing MAGA?
"God bless our President," Vigano prays. Again, he is an Italian citizen. He describes, in prayer, the pro-Trump people gathered as an "army" that serves "under Thy holy banner."
The woman wearing a blue scarf in honor (she says) of the 2nd day of Hanukkah, speaking at Jericho March, pounded gavel and said, repeatedly, "No King But Jesus! No King But Jesus!" What on earth must Jews think of all this...?
Metaxas just advised the crowd to use their "prayer language" if they have one. Now a Messianic Jew is exhorting the crowd "in Yeshua's name."
Oh boy, this messianic Jewish rabbi, Curt Landry, says he recently had a vision of Charlton Heston as Moses, and a flock of sheep. "Like a banana, the sheep's face peeled back, and inside was the Lion of the Tribe of Judah," a messianic title for Christ.
As Landry roaring about apocalyptic visions, the broadcast goes to split screen to show a My Pillow ad. You cannot make this up.
Woman head of a pro-Trump organization in Virginia onstage saying, "We have to align our spirituality to our politics." Says just as Trump won a landslide election victory, we will have a "landslide against evil"
ALEX JONES IN DA HOOOOOOOOUSE! I'm not kidding you, ALEX FREAKING JONES ON THE STAGE. He's screaming, "Humanity is awakening! Jesus Christ is King!"
"This is the beginning of the Great Revival before the Antichrist comes! ... Revelation is fulfilled!" -- AJ
Calls Mark Zuckerberg and others "miserable slaves of Satan." ... "World government is here! The system is publicly stealing this election from the biggest landslide and the biggest political re-alignment since 1776!"
"GOD IS ON OUR SIDE!" says Alex Jones. "Christ's crucifixion wasn't our defeat! It was our greatest victory!"
"We will never bow down to the satanic pedophile New World Order!"
"Joe Biden is a globalist, and Joe Biden will be removed, one way or another!" My God.
Alex Jones said "God ordained this Republic" to stand against "Satanic empires"
The Sammy Davis Jr guy onstage is threatening to "shut this country down"
He says he is a single-issue voter: that they are trying to make his vote not count. This is why he demands that the House not certify the election in January. For GOP Congress members who resist, "We will burn the Republican Party down, and we will make something new."
This guy founded Stop The Steal. He said that in January, they are moving out through the state GOPs, and mounting a takeover. "We have God's favor," he said. If you are a state GOP figure, you have been put on notice.
There is now a black Evangelical pastor on the stage holding a shofar in his hand. "Jesus ... will rule in America!" he proclaims. Black Protestant man holding a shofar at a rally to support Donald Trump. That was NOT on my 2020 scorecard
He's screaming about fighting witches and Marxism. "The Jericho walls must come down!" Now he's blowing a shofar. Also, buy a My Pillow.
I wish to point out that we have just watched a black Evangelical pastor address a crowd in Washington DC and blow a shofar to defend Donald Trump and denounce witches and Marxists. America 2020.
A white pastor onstage: "We are the final mission to ending this high treason." Said the crowd are soldiers prepared for war, to restore Eden. "We are here to save Earth and its inhabitants." Whenever you hear anyone talk of creating utopia on Earth, RUN.
Now he's giving a number for people to text in donations. Of course. Grift, grift, grift.
A pastor onstage comparing Trump supporters to Israelites about to cross the Red Sea. Pharaoh's army is coming, but just you wait. "God is about to do something in this country that is going to take the threats we're dealing with and put it [sic] down."
Says real pastors lead their flock into battle -- he's talking about actual combat. He criticizes separation of church and state.
This is extraordinary: the conflation of bloodshed, government, and serving God. "What is this separation of church and state?" He's with BlackRobeRegiment.us. This is a great gift to the left. A great gift.
A very conservative Christian friend just e-mailed me, "My God, this is the kind of stuff that drove me away from Christianity for 25 years!" I get it.
An Orthodox Christian, George Michalopulos, now speaking. He's talking about Solzhenitsyn, saying we have to live not by lies. Lie is that Trump did not win. We must resist. "If we die fighting, so be it."
Speaking onstage at Jericho March calls on Trump to "invoke the Insurrection Act" to "drop the hammer" on "traitors." Said Trump shd know that the "militia" is with him. "Let's get it on now, while [Trump] is still the commander in chief." Metaxas: "This guy is keeping it real."
These people are the mirror image of the insane intersectional Left. I would no more willingly submit to their rule than I would to woke soft totalitarianism. What a rotten time.
"This is the beginning of a Christian populist uprising," says Lance Wallnau, popular pro-Trump Christian writer. He denounces pastors who aren't on board as cowards. No kidding, this stuff is going to shatter local churches.
Eric Metaxas just now: "The correct term is 'kung flu pandemic.'" On the same week he gave an interview calling on ppl to fight for Trump "to the last drop of blood," he also released this video (song written by John Zmirak, who has a rich inner life):
Now Roger Stone on video addressing crowd saying that Jesus gave Trump the grace to pardon him. "We will Stop The Steal," he concludes.
Crowd seems to be thinning substantially.
The Catholic bishop of Tyler, Texas, is now addressing the crowd by video, by offering a prayer. Nothing in this prayer is inflammatory or partisan, but the fact that he chose to join this particular march in this way makes it clear which side he's on. A sitting Catholic bishop.
We have just been told that there will be a "Keep Christmas" rally tomorrow in DC, featuring members of Congress who are sick and tired of those wanting to cancel Christmas. Also, use code "ERIC" when you order your MyPillow.
In my small Orthodox parish, we have people who voted for Trump, and people who voted for Biden. This rally makes me feel defensive of our church's unity. I did not vote for Biden, but I *resent* these ppl trying to turn us against each other over politics.
There's a PA state senator addressing the crowd now while he is filming HIMSELF with his smartphone.
Hooray! The crowds are thin now, and Eric Metaxas said things are winding down. A 15-min video is about to air. And then, says Eric: "We're going to end by blowing some shofars and blowing your minds."
But first, Jericho March organizers + Eric singing "God Bless America"
OK, now the 15-minute video from messianic Jewish pastor Jonathan Cahn, who has been teaching that the Bible prophesied the Trump presidency. The NYT has profiled him: nytimes.com/2019/03/15/nyr…
From NYT last year:
So far, Cahn is not wrong about the things he's saying that the Democrats favor, re: religious liberty, transgenderism, etc. He's speaking it in urgent, panicked language ... but he's not wrong.
Here's the thing: most of these things really are happening! But fighting it like this, by putting all your faith in Donald Trump, believing & proclaiming things that are false, and demonizing all those who disagree -- this is how to fight for righteousness? No!
Cahn still talking. I mentioned earlier how interesting it is that Trump solidarity combines Catholic & Evangelical piety. I wonder how many Americans not tuned in to Evang/Pentecostal pop culture are aware of how thoroughly saturated in Jewish/Zionist themes it is.
Cahn, to crowd: "You are the light of the world." <-- This msg has been constant, from many speakers today. Conferring divine innocence on the crowd. Whatever they think and do is of God, it seems to say. Trump is holy. How else to understand any of this?
Jonathan Cahn is one of the few white Christian pastors I have ever heard who preaches with the vigor of a black preacher.
Cahn speech is over. If you buy this Trump-infused apocalyptic vision, Cahn is a spellbinding advocate of it. Camera pulled back; only a few people still present at the rally.
Caption this:
Folks, the Jericho March video livestream just ended by bringing Brick Suit on to wish viewers farewell. This is my cue to go too. It's been real. Thank you for reading these dispatches from America 2020. Use promo code SHOOTMENOW when you visit MyPillow-dot-com
Reader messages me: <<Credit where it’s due, flogging a MyPillow discount between prayers for God to smite your enemies is the most American thing ever.>>

Can I get an amen?

Maximo Alvarez, the Cuban refugee from Miami, is a fantastic spokesman for Trump. He's absolutely terrific. I'm near tears. "I may be Cuban-born, but I'm 100 percent American! This is the greatest country in the world."
OK, I'm crying. What a great man.
You don't have to agree with his political choice to recognize what his life stands for, and who he is, is a beautiful thing. That jarring commercial after he finished was terrible.

A thread about Hungarian politics. Make of it what you will. In Budapest last week, I got into a conversation with a service worker at a business that caters to a large tourist clientele. We talked about Viktor Orban. He began by making fun of Orban. It was clear that [more]
he was putting on a mask for the Westerner (me). When I told him that I wasn't going to judge him for his political views, he changed his story. He told me that he was an Orban supporter. Said that he knows that Orban's rule means a fair amount of corruption [more]
(He mentioned the case of the unaccountably rich mayor of Orban's hometown -- something I heard more than once in Budapest.) But the young man said that that was something he could live with. Why? Because V. Orban is the only politician in the country who, in his view, [more]

So: I began today before daylight in Vienna, and now I'm ending the day sitting at gate for Baton Rouge flight, listening to elderly Cajuns discuss pros and cons of wearing Crocs. I give them five minutes before they start on dem Tigahs. This is my life, and I'm happy with it.
Now one of the ladies is talking about how her husband took the dog to the vet because she (the dog) ate a plate of spicy meat and rice that the husband fed her. ("She eats whatevah he eats." The dog sleeps between them too. ("She'll growl at me in da bed.") Dat man loves his dog
"I said to him, 'Wut's da contingency plan if she doys?' He said, 'She betta not doy!' I said to him dat we got alligatahs, so we gotta be thinkin' bout it."

I'm one of those conservatives who has been listening to NPR all his adult life, and who has been a member (donor) off and on through the years. NPR is part of my family's culture; my 12 y.o. daughter *literally* wants to be an NPR correspondent when she grows up. So [more]
it really hit me hard last week when I got so angry at NPR over its bias that I turned the car radio off twice. I don't have strong feelings about the immigration issue, but my god, NPR, does it even occur to you how one-sided your reporting is? [more]
I'm used to NPR being liberal. It comes with the territory. But on immigration -- and more broadly, cultural issues -- NPR has seemingly become more and more about advocacy journalism. I say this as someone who has been listening regularly since the 1980s. [more]

I have a sincere request for folks who reach out, or who are thinking of reaching out, to journalists with their own stories of clerical abuse, corruption, etc. Journalists reporting on this are eager to hear your stories if you have good information /more
It can be helpful to have background info, to better understand what's happening in a given situation. But here's what's really frustrating, esp for journalists (like me) who want to see bad things end and good things happen /more
I can't tell you how many e-mails I've rec'd over the years covering the Catholic Church scandal from people -- priests and laity -- who have seen and lived with corruption and abuse, and who are sincerely desperate for things to change, and who say, in the end, /more
