As 2020 comes to a close so much great work has been done by all our members but we wanted to recognize 3 @DenBicycleLobby members that have done some great stuff for biking and safe streets:

@AKenreich @ddchen @NoSquish

A thread...
Let’s start with @AKenreich Who got the Golden Spoke award tonight. This is a award to recognize someone that has helped bicycle advocacy for all ages.
@AKenreich has done so much work. She championed issues for biking on a state and local level. She has used her amazing art talents to remember Alexis Bounds, and push for open and shared streets. And she has always pushed to make it safe to get more kids on bikes.
Be sure to check out this video of the amazing artwork she did with @ddchen and @molly_mckinley to remember Alexis Bounds.

The next award is the David Martinez Memorial Award. For those of you that don’t know. David was tragically hit by a driver 2 years ago biking home from work. We were honored to have several of his family members joining us tonight.

David Martinez’s death represents everything that we at DBL try to prevent. David didn’t have a car, and was biking home from work in a neighborhood that didn’t have any bike lanes.
David’s daughter Maggierose said that she couldn’t think of a better person for this award then @ddchen. David Chen reached out to the family to organize a memorial ride in honoring David Martinez, and called the North Denver community to not let this happen again.
David has poured his heart into making streets safer and raising awareness for traffic violence. Not only leading the Martinez Memorial ride but also helped organize one for Alexis Bounds this summer.
He has also recently joined a growing group to advocates for car free streets in parks and slow streets in neighborhoods, and helped on a art project this summer to raise awareness for these.
The last award is for the @DenBicycleLobby Bicycle Mayor. This is someone that not only is a champion advocate for bicycling and safe streets, but also a person that has advanced DBL and our mission.
This award goes to @NoSquish. As @rightlegpegged said tonight, he built a platform for #BikeDEN advocates to come together. Rob has built our website, created our slack channel, and brought DBL together in person for the first time for meetups.
Along with @rightlegpegged he launched the #RedCupProject to remember @darsal and mobilized advocates from around the world to show that #PaintIsNotProtection and that bike lanes should be protected.
He has brought the DBL group together for so many meet ups and himself attended just about every bike lane community meeting during the GO Bond roll out to support bike lanes in all parts of Denver, not just his own neighborhood.
Along with @JCRiecke and @rightlegpegged Rob organized a Critical Mass ride to remember Alexis Bounds and take over the streets in protest of a horrible summer of traffic violence.

He has advocated for issues at a local and state level- joining @BicycleColo for the lobbying day in early 2020. And has used technology to allow DBL members to engage with their elected leaders.
And even in the pandemic, Rob has brought DBL together on zoom with great speakers like @00Piep @greg_shill @PlannerGaby & @RobertHurst157
We are lucky to have these 3 amazing folks, & all of our great other citizen leaders. Despite the pandemic we’ve accomplished so much this year. And look forward to the work that 2021 will bring.

And Thank you @TenlyWilliams & @nivekmw for the amazing homemade awards for DBL!
