Outstanding news: President-elect Biden has selected @Michael_S_Regan to serve as EPA administrator! If you know him, I'm sure you're as thrilled as I am. A few reasons this is so encouraging...(thread)
.@Michael_S_Regan took the helm as Secretary of the Department of Environmental Quality in North Carolina during a difficult time in the agency’s history, after years of budget cutting and turmoil
He quickly restored morale and then solved big problems by respecting science and bringing together people with different views. That's how he's been so effective protecting public health and the environment in North Carolina's divided government
During his time at DEQ in NC @Michael_S_Regan led a large complex agency with skill, openness to new ideas and a determination to achieve real results
Despite the challenges, @Michael_S_Regan's work led to the largest excavation of toxic coal ash in the nation’s history. He successfully tackled the PFAS pollution from Chemours, leading to a 99% reduction in discharges and a major clean-up
Michael’s collaborative approach has allowed him to build durable policies that promote clean air and clean water alongside a strong economy. That's exactly what we need in an EPA administrator
As an @EnvDefenseFund staffer from 2008 to 2016, @Michael_S_Regan led our efforts to grow clean energy and demonstrated a talent for working with unexpected allies to achieve environmental progress...
...and he was on point for the historic Save-A-Watt program, the first utility lead energy efficiency program in the Southeast. He led work that helped modernize the grid in Ohio and New York
The selection of @Michael_S_Regan makes it clear that @JoeBiden is serious about making real progress on climate change, improving public health and addressing environmental justice
.@Michael_S_Regan will ensure that science, law, and a commitment to a healthier future will be at the center of America’s environmental policies. Congratulations, Michael, this is richly deserved. Looking forward to working with you in your new role (/thread)

It's been reported that President-elect Biden has chosen @GinaNRDC to be America’s domestic climate advisor. The fact that we’ll have a new position overseeing national climate policy demonstrates that the incoming admin will pursue ambitious action...
...while also creating jobs and strengthening our economy. The fact that @GinaNRDC has been tapped for the job means we’ll have a leader who can make it happen
The window of opportunity to combat climate change has not closed. A decade of extraordinary innovation has made the greening of the global economy not only feasible but also likely. But we're going to need negative emission technologies, or NETs, to make it happen...(thread)
To stabilize the total atmospheric concentration of CO2 and other GHGs, the world will have to reach net negative emissions, or taking more GHGs out of the atmosphere than are being pumped into it. Achieving that through emission reductions alone will be extremely difficult
Getting to net negative emissions requires tech that actually removes CO2 from the atmosphere. That’s where negative emission technologies (NETs) come in. Not as a substitute for aggressive efforts to reduce GHGs but as a complement. Not a Plan B, but a critical part of Plan A
