Thank you, Philip. Because Of You, I Now Have A Website

On August 5, I got an email (see screenshots) from Philip. I had never met him before but he follows me on twitter. He offered to build a website for me free of charge.

Not only that, he offered to help me to upload all my contents past and present, sync it with my twitter feeds, set up a booking page for my speaking engagements, incorporate a newsletter that will go out to subscribers weekly and include a picture gallery among others.

I understand how unreliable writing all your articles on the regular social media can be- twitter can shut you down and Facebook can pull down your page. I would like to keep all my articles for posterity so the website is a welcome idea.

Philip was so persistent even when I stalled on the project due to my tight schedule you would have thought he was working for his pay. Well, we are good to go now and the result is my beautiful and user-friendly website greaterbayo.com.ng.

I asked him to send an e-flyer so I could at least appreciate him but he declined (see screenshots). He didn't want any public adulation. What a soul!

Philip, may the Lord grant you double honour and bless you in multiple folds.

Now, here's what I'm going to do: 2 people will get 2 new websites as Christmas gifts from Philip's company- The Plenipotent Company Limited- fully paid for by me. I will choose one winner each from Facebook and Twitter.

To qualify, tell me why you should win this. Your case must be compelling and you must show proof that you can't afford one. You must also be able to demonstrate how having a website will improve your business.

I will announce the winners on Monday by 6pm.

Sometimes in October, I received a call from a former client who had been out of the country for almost a year.

He is not a Nigerian but had just secured an appointment with a company. His first statement was “Bayo, I need to pick your brain on this because with you I know where I stand. I know you’ll not deceive me”.

After our discussion, he told me he had already informed his Chairman that their banking relationship had to come to me. I’ve signed it on since.

Life is a school from which you only graduate when you die. The greatest certificate you will get out of life is one they collect on your behalf and that is a death certificate.

1. Read Books

Read extensively. Don't limit yourself to your course of study. A reader is a leader and you're the sum total of the books you have read. Read about philosophy. Read about motivation. Read about leadership. Read biographies of others.

Peter J. Daniels said his life was changed after he read 2,000 biographies. Read about the arts and geography.
John D. Rockefeller once said people can take all his wealth but they should leave his books but within 3 years, he'll make all the wealth back again.

Travelogue: Ibadan-Hills, Bottoms, Masquerades & Research

More than 15 years ago, I met an Italian who had lodged at KS Motel at Total Gardens, Ibadan.

He was in Ibadan for the first time and he was very fascinated with the city when I informed him that Rome and Ibadan shared a very unique similarity: both of them are built on seven hills. He asked me to take him round Ibadan which I did.

The seven hills are Oke Padre, Oke Ado, Oke Bola, Oke Mapo, Oke Are, Oke Sapati and Oke Mokola. But Ibadan is not just a city of hills. It is also a city of 'bottoms'. Loosely translated, 'idi' means bottom or the backside.

Conversation With A Genius-2: Dr Omololu Olunloyo, Adegoke Adelabu Penkelemesi and How He Was Arrested At Libya

I had the immense privilege of being invited by Dr Omololu Olunloyo again this morning. I was there together with Babajide Olapade and some members of his team.

Dr Olunloyo had called me on phone a few days after I posted about our first meeting. He heard about the posts and he said as much today.

I explained to Baba that he owes the younger generation a duty to document his experience and life so we can learn from him.

You can't spend time with Dr Olunloyo and not be amazed at how God has specially endowed him. He told us today that he was the first Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

When Things Don’t Work Out The Way We Planned

My first love was music. Growing up in the early 80s, I was heavily influenced by Dizzy K. Falola. To me then, he was a god- the god of music.

His 'Baby Kilode' song boomed everywhere then. I recall watching the Michael Jackson wannabe on TSOS (Television Service of Oyo State- as BCOS TV was then known) and I just wanted to be like him. I loved the jerry curls, the way he danced, the jacket, the klieg lights.

I practiced his dance steps. Baby Kilode was a hit. Those were the days when music artistes sang love songs and still kept the lyrics so clean even children could sing them. Not the pangolo suggestive music of this era.

Travelogue: Another Day With The Ooni of Ife, Opa Oranmiyan & The House With The Lake

Never have I seen so much love for a traditional ruler in my life. Never!

As His Imperial Majesty alighted from his vehicle and entered the Royal Hall within the expansive palace grounds called 'Ile Oodua', the crowd surged after him. They struggled as some squeezed themselves between the doors so they could get closer to the Ooni, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi

It was something similar to people surging after a popular TV evangelist at an open-air crusade. The only difference was that they didn't touch him. They couldn't dare. He walked with such imperial majesty.
