It’s patriotic to support all your fellow citizens, not just those who share your views.

It’s patriotic to care about those from other countries.

Fox and MSNBC watchers (and NYT readers) are overwhelmingly partisan.

All about consuming only the information you already agree with.

If you’re American and really interested in mainstream but unbiased news, watch an hour of global coverage from outside US—say DW and NHK world.

As for twitter, if you don’t follow people you actively disagree with but intellectually respect, you’re making it worse.
